    #BringInRiker campaign

Have any of you guys been paying much attention to the grassroots #BringInRiker campaign on both twitter and facebook to get Jonathan Frakes to direct the next Star Trek movie? It seems to be picking up speed as various sites are running the articles on it. Both Jeri Ryan and René Auberjonoisi are in support of it. Frakes himself has even commented on it saying he has talked to JJ Abrams about it and his agent is reaching out to Paramount.

Anyways, what's your thoughts? He did a stand up job when he directed First Contact, and really understands the franchise.

    If you're interested here's the fb page - http://www.facebook.com/BringInRiker

I question the latter - if he really understood the franchise, he wouldn't have participated in that awful "finale" to Enterprise. Still he's at least familiar with the franchise and has some understanding of the fan base, which JJ and Berman both seem not to get.

Um...not sure what to say. I guess, thanks for editing my post to include your commentary?

Nonetheless, it's a crazy idea and a long shot of uncalculable length but man, it would be really neat if it came to pass.

A polished turd is still a turd.

Frakes to direct? Nothing wrong with the idea but depends on the script which is rather more important...

That said I was entertained by the reboots (slightly less than 'like'). They may not be trek, but they are bright cheerful popcorn movies.

Actually, the script for INto Darkness wasn't too bad, but it was definitively JJ's directing that made it so hard to accept. Ships flicking across the Galaxy like it was Star Wars, lens flares everywhere, the Enterprise being bigger than a Soverign class - that was all JJ.

BTW, have you ever seen the Mythbusters episode about polishing turds? They proved it can be done. It's a lot of time-wasting work that produces something that actually looks nice, but is still just a lump of shit.

the biggest mistakes for me were the transwarp transport from Earth to Kronos [112 Light Years distance] using a small portable device (totally outside the technology capability of the time mid to late 23rd century, even the Dominion couldn't transport that far as of late 24th century, only technology that could capable of such a feat was the Spacial Trajector or an Iconian Gateway)

and the communication distance of Kirk to Scotty, over a similar distance (and it was instantaneous, as per DS-9 RPG source book page 213, 53 minutes for subspace radio speed with booster relays, to travel 20 LY, so it would be approximately 296.8 minutes each way)

To be honest I would love to see a new series, maybe centered around the Enterprise-G (2420's)a Phoenix class heavy cruiser

There is a fan based YouTube series doing this exactly now but I would like to see a professional production.
