Haynes Klingon Bird-of-Prey I.K.S. Rotarran (B’rel-class) Owner’s Workshop Manual
Haynes has been putting out some interesting books that are based on the fictional versions of the ships and some real ships and historic aircraft. I was flipping through a copy of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey Owners’ Workshop Manual, what I was surprise by was the BOP’s were equipped with a twin Warp Core systems and primary and secondary disruptors. I thought that needed to take a look at and has its advantages in battle. With a twin warp core the ship with one core damaged could slip away at impulse or make a suicide attack on an enemy ship. The primary and secondary disruptors are carefully designed to disable a ships systems after shields have failed without destroying the ship. Like the Haynes book they looked close at the I.K.S. Rotarran, commanded by General Martok during the Dominion War until his ascension to Chancellor of the High Council replacing Chancellor Gowron. The Rotarran is a small ship for a General to command but the modifications that where made enhanced the ships operations and protect the General at the wishes of the Klingon High Council. So I threw in the Twin Warp Cores as a design change with a few changes I threw in just for the heck of it.
I thought that it would make a good starship for a series of games where the Klingon crew and a few Federation liaison crew assigned to assist the exploration of the Federation-Klingon frontiers together. There would have to be modifications to bring the ship up in Starfleet standards for exploration such as better medical systems and food replicators. The sensors could be touched up. I could see a one third of the crew as Federation.
I have done the same to the same to a K’Vort class battle Cruiser that I will post later.
