    Wakizashi-Class Interceptor (Heavy Attack Fighter)

the companion vessel to the Katana class Battle Cruiser. Each Katana carry's 5 of these Interceptors/Heavy Attack Fighters. The Wakizashi-class (official classification is Heavy Attack Fighter) is an updated version of the outdated Peregrine-class Attack Fighter. A new larger space frame design was utilized increasing Size Class from 2-3, the designers doubled all of the Peregrine dimensions. Some new technologies were integrated (LOS MkI stealth system and Polarizing Reactive hull armour) and a micro protype QIC, as well as the now standardized technology of Quantum torpedoes, pulse phasers, Bio-neural Computers a metaphasic/regenerative shields. The only thing the designers failed to include was a EMH equipped medical bay, there was simply not enough room.
While these vessels are capable of sustaining warp 9.4 (and capable of substantial interstellar journeys), they are not set up for extended missions, they are extremely spartan with almost all of their systems orientated towards combat situations. Those Wakizashi not assigned to a Capitol host vessel are considered to have an operational range of one Sector (20 ly/around 90 hour transit).

The Wakizashi employs a remarkable first generation two-layer system to avoid detection. First, it uses several special low-power chronoton field emitters, essentially "poor man's cloaking devices", to mask the ship from sensors. At a passing glance, a sensor scan would go right over it. In the event that they manage to arouse some attention, the second system is brought online: a silicon-based biological compound on the hull that mimics the surrounding colors and lights with remarkable accuracy.

Despite their size the Wakizashi-class carry's significant firepower and is capable of causing catastrophic damage on even Capitol sized vessels. Standard deployment is the "wing" which consists of 4 HAF. If assigned to a scouting mission, most often only a single Wakizashi is deployed. These vessels are exceptionally maneuverable at impulse speeds, thanks in part to the Impulse Thrusters and in combat situations regularly exceed .6c, despite time dilation problems. Also because of the crafts Atmo capability Wakizashi pilots will often dive in and out of a planets atmosphere to gain a tactical advantage, or when retreating.
Much of what was learnt during the Defiant project was implemented into the Wakizashi-class. Many of the systems tested in the Defiant are now standard on the Wakizashi.

With the modification to the Treaty of Algeron (Treaty amended after the Dominion war) all Perimeter Defense vessel's are now fitted with Federation developed stealth technology, with the LOS MkI being fitted to all of these vessels. Rather then fit a "standard" cloaking device Federation R&D decided to develop their own version of stealth technology. The LOS is smaller, uses less energy and achieves the approximately 75% of the effectiveness as the Defiant's (class 8 Romulan cloaking device) Cloaking device.

Special note, Ramming Hull. Star Fleet as a general rule, does not encourage or condone suicide attack's (SF officers are precious resources not to be squandered on suicide attacks), but in special circumstances the Wakizashi-class is out fitted for Ramming procedures. SOP is to set the autopilot to ram and all personnel beam away to a safe harbor.

Why not just allow the EMH to materialize in the cockpit when needed?

as per Space Dock you need a 8 rating or higher medical facility (40 SU's just there) to be able to equip a EMH (5 SU's for the MkI hologram, and 15 SU's for a MkII that has access to the entire vessel), hence I could not fit it in.

Yeah, but this is supposed to be after the period covered by the SD core, right? So all the systems and system costs should be revised.

yeah it's a decade after Space Dock which is "set" at around 2376. I would love to see a revised Space Dock that covers a broader time period (especially taking into account that Voyager returned in 2378 and bought with them a heap of new and advanced technology) but that is a big project. I am most interested in vessels and technology of the early 25th century or the far future after the 31st century.

I did think of just ignoring the "only in rating 8-10 medical facilities" part, and just add in the 15 su's for the hologram equipment, and may still do, but for the moment I will leave it as is.

as far as the Space Dock revision part though, for me IMHO (backed up in real life) technology almost always progresses to smaller and more efficient designs, so as the time line progresses all the technology in Space Dock should decrease in size, or the SU's increase. This is especially true if you factor in Flat Space (storing stuff 2 dimensionally), Pattern Buffer (storing stuff using transporter technology) or trans-dimensional storage (containers are bigger on the inside then they are on the outside.

But if you look at the way Space Dock is set up it doesn't seem to work like that. I surmise it is set up that way so as to make every thing even for RPG simulation, so every body is on an even playing field.

A perfect example is the SU's listing in a given range for each size class. I always take the maximum listed SU (even though it specifically states that you shouldn't necessarily do that). I also try to use up every available SU in all my builds, again Space Dock says not to do this. In a build if I have 100 SU's left over I always go back and put in more torpedo's, or increase the science or medical rating, add in more speed or strengthen the shields etc. As I have previously stated I dislike left over SU's in any build. To be honest I struggle to stay with in Space Dock listed SU's at the best of times anyway...LoL

In real life, designers of say the latest class of nuclear submarine don't leave large voids of space "so to factor in upgrades". Every bit of space is accounted for and utilized. It's just not efficient to do it any other way. They may leave a small amount of wriggle room for upgades but for the most part all available space is used.

Specialized Scout Version of the Wakizashi-class. (designated Wakizashi(S)-class)

The Type S Wakizashi is a dedicated scouting version of the Wakizashi Interceptor. Several systems have been emitted or downgraded and others upgraded to suit the Scout mission profile. The Type S lacks the firepower of the Interceptor but has drastically uprated sensor and science systems.

    Modifications
Forward pulse cannon removed (-49su), TA/T/TS downgraded to Delta (-3su), Lateral sensors Gain downgraded to alpha (-6su) SU's end up at 989

    Upgrades
    L/R sensors
Type2 uprated to Type8 (hr 6ly lr 18ly), Class 6 uprated to Class 10, Alpha gain uprated to Gamma [32+20+12] total su's for sensor upgrades 47su
    L/R +1000 substances/effects [+3su]
    Lateral +1000 substances/effects [+3su]

Science Systems rating 2 uprated to 3 [+5su]
    10 labs added [+2su]
    1 specialized lab (unassigned) [+5su]
Total of 54su takes vessels SU's to 1048
