    Luna class Exploratory cruiser

I found a ICON version of this interesting vessel, though not a Space Dock version, so I decided to try my hand at a build that sticks to Space Dock (something I usually find difficult). I chose this vessel because, for me it is a logical extension of the movie progression (pre Abrams). I always thought a movie could be made of Riker's first command of the Luna-class USS Titan

The USS Titan (NCC-80102) was a Luna-class Federation starship in Starfleet service, launched in 2379 under the command of Captain William T. Riker. The Titan, like the other ships in the Luna class, was named for a moon in the Sol system, Titan. This new series of vessels had one of the most diverse crews in fleet history—fewer than 15% of the Titan crewmembers were Human.

The Luna Class Starship is Starfleet's newest-generation long-range explorer type vessel, a starship not specifically built for combat, and like the Constitution Class of the previous century, it is a vessel designed for long-term, multi-purpose missions into uncharted space (these vessels are equipped for an extended 5 year mission, an additional two years over the standard 3 years most Explorers are equipped for). Though these vessels are designed as a dedicated state-of-the-art science vessel they are equipped with enough tactical systems to allow for adequate defense and introduces as standard multi-spacial/metaphasic technology to the shields, ablative hull armour, high yield torpedo launchers and ACB jacketing to primary phaser arrays. The Luna Class ship also boasts state-of-the-art propulsion and cutting-edge scientific equipment, as well as being a test bed for experimental science and sensor technology not yet available on other classes of starships.
Luna Class Starships have the capability of being manned by the most varied multi-species crews in Starfleet history, with Humans potentially taking up less than 15% of the assigned 350-member crews. The crew diversity will help allow exploration in ways that beings of different cultures, biologies, psychologies, and physical appearances can accomplish by learning how to work together, or fail to, depending on the circumstances they encounter. Families are not carried on board.
From stem to stern, the Luna Class Starship is one of the most advanced starships in Starfleet. It is equipped with some of the most advanced features available in the Federation to Starfleet ships. At 450 meters long, the Luna Class is built sleek and long. As the next generation to the Intrepid Class Starship, it will focus on exploration and scientific research projects, as well as routine defensive duties.
Many of the technologies introduced in the Intrepid-class have been integrated into the Luna-class, such as a detachable bridge module, aeroshuttle captains yacht, variable geometry nacelles, astrometrics specialized lab and atmo/planetfall capabilities.

Pursuant to new Medical Protocols, all Medical Facilities are equipped with holo-emitters for the usage of the Emergency Medical Hologram System. Additional holo-emitters for EMH use are located through out the entire vessel.
Counselor's Office: The Counselor’s office is also located on Deck 5 to assure a more efficient medical treatment environment. Inside, the usual plain duranium walls are softened with an atypical palette outside of the normal Starfleet gray and blue. There are no visual sensors in this office and audio recordings are done only with the voice code of the Counselor. One of the ships holo suite's is reserved for medical rehabilitation purposes.

Improved verterion coil manufacture allows for smaller nacelles producing superior warp fields.

    aerowing captains yacht

Mounted on the underside of the saucer section, the Aerowing rests in a recessed hatchway just aft of the ventral sensor array. The craft serves in the capacity of a runabout aboard larger ships. In fact the Aerowing’s technology and design is based, in large part, on the Danube class runabout.

The Aerowing provides a large secondary craft, long-range travel, and the protection, armament, and sensor capabilities beyond that of a standard auxiliary shuttle. Facilities include quarters for the crew, 2 luxury passenger cabins for VIP use and a fully functioning med bay. A holosuite and small lounge provide for the needs of the passengers and a four-person transporter allows for beaming of personnel or cargo when needed. Atmospheric flight capabilities allow this shuttle type to land on planetary surfaces.

Never liked how the rollbar and the nacelle pylons don't meet up.

I will admit I like top picture of the Luna-class in the OP, she looks rakish and stylish, but the other profiles (particularly the side view) are somewhat less pleasing to my eye.

TTK what do you think of my write up?

Despite laying out two Spacedock sourcebooks, I never actually played it.

pdf for free download is easy enough to find, I have Space Dock, Federation 01 Recognition Manual, Dominion War Source book, Klingon Recognition manual, Cardasian Recognition manual and Romulan Recognition manual all on PDF.

While my paper RPG playing days are well past me (as I am in my mid forties and havn't RPG'ed for a decade now and focus solely on CRPG'ing) I still really enjoy building ships and also regularly re-watch all of Star Trek (I own all of it on DVD). I am also finding it very cathartic interacting on this forum, and am using it as a release for my creative impulses...LoL I did have Kharn Ascendant rattling around in my mind for several years and really enjoyed posting it here.

here is some for your viewing/downloading pleasure
    http://www.coldnorth.com/memoryicon/.../spacedock.htm

Space Dock is the definitive work for Star Fleet ship building. I just wish the authors would produce a revised version tracking Federation ship technology right true to past the 31st century. Omega seems to have done a lot of work concerning Space Dock and I avidly read all of his posts.

I used to, back in the day...man that makes me feel old. I got a pretty good idea as to what works when I was playing so I can basically extrapolate from there and know how a build would fair in a fight. What I really would like is to find a flight/starship combat simulator based directly on Space Dock and be able to have simulated battles, as well as do builds on a computer.

You could probably program that yourself, if all you want is a turn-based thing.

now that would require far more computer savvy then I possess.
