There are plenty of amazing films coming out these days—I'm thinking The Witch, Fury Road and It Follows in particular—but very rarely from large studios. A lack of overall financial conservatism there is leading to creative conservatism on the part of whoever keeps deciding who to hire these writers and directors.
EDIT: There's also the fact that movies are incredibly expensive now in an age when incomes are shrinking.

The new Mad Max movie, Fury Road was IMHO atrocious, no where near the originals, it may have won a heap of awards but I didn't think it deserved such accolades. I am just happy I never wasted money going to see it at the cinema's.Originally Posted by TTK

I would put it on par with Beyond Thunderdome, Fury Road was one ridiculously long, boring car chase. Not worth seeing IMHO.
