    Star Gate Universe Destiny

    http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Destiny

"The design is clearly Ancient, in the truest sense of the word. Launched hundreds of thousands of years ago. Faster than light, yet not through hyperspace. Who knows how far it's traveled." Dr Nicholas Rush

Destiny is a ship in the Ancient fleet, constructed and launched over 50 million years ago from Earth. The Ancients launched several automated ships prior to Destiny, each with the purpose of constructing and seeding Stargates throughout the numerous galaxies they crossed, with Destiny itself planned to follow in their path to explore those planets.

Destiny is fully automated and does not require a crew to operate it. To gain access to Destiny one needs to acquire the unique 9 chevron address and find a planet with a Star Gate that has very specific power generation ability (so far only 3 planets have been found that meets the power requirements to establish a lock with Destiny's Star Gate.) Currently Destiny is crewed by a small group of humans.

Much of the ship is still unexplored and uninhabited, with only the aft 'engineering' section and bridge tower being fully explored.

*currently 70 Civilian, United States Air Force, and United States Marine Corps personnel, 1 Lucian Alliance member

    Crew Quarters
    Basic 320 (1-2 berth) <22>
*crew quarters tend to be somewhat spartan and vary in size (not so much as to warrant a different classification), most are two room (bed room/living space and rest room/toilet) and have a table with stools, a bed (large two person sized bed) and some sort of arm chair. Some quarters have a computer terminal allowing crew members to access Destiny's computer. There are a series of communal "shower' facilities available for the crew. (The showers aboard the Destiny were designed by the Ancients and do not use water, but rather an unknown substance that sprays like mist against the body, and beads up.)

Basic Life Support [caters for 2000] <36>
Reserve Life Support (currently inoperative) <18>
Emergency Life Support (72 emergency shelters) <18>
    Gravity [4 Power/round] <9>
Consumables, provisions for 3 years worth <41>
*currently not at full capacity, the crew has secured approximately 1 month of consumables

    Medical Facilities: 4 (+1) emk 4 <20>
CMO 2/3 Per 1/2 (skills based on current personnel and not indicative of Medical rating)
The Destiny infirmary is an area aboard Destiny, used to treat ill or injured people. This room houses many different medical devices, some from Earth, but some are of Ancient technology (although Eli Wallace admitted to not knowing what most of the Ancient devices do). The medical facilities are under the command of Lt. Tamara Johansen. When Dr. Nicholas Rush unlocked Destiny's master code, the whole medical database became available to the Destiny expedition. A wide variety of Ancient technology was also made usable.
    *120 stasis pods [120 pwr/rnd to operate all 120 pods] <12>
*only 71 are currently available for use, the rest are inoperative due to age and neglect.
(10 pods/su, puts occupant in stasis, all metabolic function slowed, occupant ages 1 year/100 years. These early pods aren't as efficient as current Ancient Stasis technology which reduces metabolic rate at a significantly greater rate. Some ancient stasis pod technology can halt metabolic rate completely)

    Recreation Facilities: 4 <16>
large spartan eating facility, 2 small lounges
*one of the small lounges has been converted to serve as a 'makeshift' bar, affectionately named Brody's Tavern. The crew member Brody has constructed a still which produces a potent ethyl alcohol, which is the only alcoholic beverage available on board.
*The other small lounge is the 'observation deck' The observation deck sits near the rear section of Destiny and gives a panoramic view via a single large window. There are various benches and tables in the room for people to sit and observe space ahead. Situated on the left side of the room is an Ancient bar unit that dispenses beverages (chilled water only presently, if fully supplied the 'bar unit' could dispense other beverages). Also visible is the front section of Destiny, as well as one of the docked Ancient shuttlecraft.
    *Botanical (garden) dome <9>
The Destiny garden is a large, domed room on the starboard side of Destiny in which the crew is growing some of their own produce. It is currently breached and not in use.

Jefferies tubes, rapid transport elevators <27>
    Fire Suppression System <9>
Cargo holds 300,000 cubic meters <9>
Locations: Various locations through out vessel, one of the cargo bays has been converted to a hydroponics bays (so the crew can grow their own produce)
*The Hydroponics Lab is an area on board the Destiny where the crew is growing some of their own produce. The food grows in a green gel instead in earth. Jeremy Franklin has taken it upon himself to oversee the lab. As overall crew morale dwindled, Franklin was, at first, completely distraught that nothing was growing; however he was simply too impatient, as soon after, he witnessed the first sprout.

*used to travel the voids between galaxy's (capable of travelling 1.314m ly/year)
*the inter-galactic drive is a very early prototype version of the standard Ancient Hyperdrive, though it uses a completely different method of operation.
*the FTL drives, once engaged, must remain active for a minimum of four hours, and after use must remain inactive for a minimum of three hours to prevent damage to the drives.

    Impulse Engine's (16) Class 2 (.5c/.5c) [240 pwr/rnd] <16x10su=160>
*only 15 are active and can generate power
    Reaction Control System (.025c) <9>
*Destiny originally had 16 combined FTL/Impulse engines, though due to the engines being operated for such a long time one engine has been rendered inoperable due to wear and tear, Destiny now only uses 15 engines.

*The Destiny database is the central computer database on the Ancient starship Destiny. As well as containing information about the ship itself and the technology aboard it, it also records the sensor data that the ship takes when scanning a planet. The database is also updated, via subspace link, by the Seed ships, and from this information the ship can plot it's next course. Making queries in the database can allow the ship to determine when the Destiny moves out of FTL to dial to a nearby Stargate, it locks out nearby Stargates that don't have what the crew needs based on the queries made, in the case of life support, the Stargate was dialed to a planet with calcite for the CO2 Scrubber, the other four addresses were locked out, possibly because they don't have what they need or because it has a hazard that makes extraction of the calcite dangerous.
*approximately 1/3 of the Planet Novus database, the accumulation of approximately 2000 years of data.

*AI processor (can only appear to people who have been interfaced through the Control Chair, and then only as a hallucination [Virtual Reality]) <9>
The Destiny AI is the automated system which controls and maintains the Ancient deep-space exploration vessel Destiny. It allows the ship to adapt to any unforeseen circumstances in its journey across the universe. The AI's primary function is to govern the ship's autopilot, making course corrections, refueling stops, and stopping at Stargate-seeded planets as necessary. It can plot complex slingshot maneuvers around gravitation bodies, such as gas giants and stars, as well as divert power as needed to ensure the ship remains on-course.
The AI also has the ability to analyze the crew, diverting the ship to locations which will provide needed resources for the crew to survive. However, their survival is considered secondary to the mission, so the AI will only allow as much time as it deems necessary for the crew to complete their current task.

    Long Range Communication Stones/Device
The crew bought with them a Long Range Communication Device and several pairs of stones, this allows them to communicate over the vast distance between Destiny and Earth (several billion ly). This device allows the person to establish a psychic link with another person, and actually swap consciousness. There has also proven to be residual effects associated with using these devices, including flash backs, retained memory's from other users and other unwanted problems.

Star Gate (prototype, 6m diameter) standard 50ly range (though with enough power can be a lot more), establishes an artificial wormhole to another Star Gate, offers near instantaneous travel to anybody/anything that can fit through the Gate. Can only maintain an active wormhole for 36 minutes. Travel is one way, entering an incoming wormhole results in the death of the traveler. <50>
"Isn't it something? Rush figures that this gate predates all the others we know of, like a prototype. It's the only way we're ever going to get home."—Eli Wallace
The Stargate aboard the Destiny is a different, older design from the Stargates seen in the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies. According to Dr. Nicholas Rush, the Stargate aboard Destiny is among the first of the Stargates ever created. Furthermore, the Stargate aboard the Destiny is the same design as those constructed and distributed by Seed ships across the universe, being slightly smaller than its successors.

my thinking for Destiny's FTL systems were such, in Star Gate some of the races (Asgard, Ancient's) demonstrated the ability to travel between galaxy's in a matter of week's (the X303 could do Milky Way to Pegasus in 3 months if using a ZPM to boost power to their hyperdrive from memory), and there was mention of different rates of travel inside, and outside of a Galaxy, so I decided to equip Destiny with 2 FTL drives. Using Omega's 10ly/hour FTL model, that's 87,600ly per year, and that is simply not in line with the distance/travel times represented in Star Gate (voids between Galaxy's tend to be in the region of 1-4 MILLION ly) Even using the 2.5ly/min Drive (I modeled this drive on an Ancient Hyperdrive as per Omega's Expanded notes, basically I halved the SU's, travel times and power requirements) it still going to take years to travel between Galaxy's. Why I chose 3 years of power reserves is because in the last episode's of SG Universe Destiny was going to take 3 years to make the trip to the next galaxy.

You will note there are no replicators, holo-decks, escape pods, or transporters on-board; all of which were not seen on Destiny. Nor is there any auxiliary power generators or emergency power systems, Destiny relies on the Solar Power Converter system and her impulse engines to generate power.

Age notes, as Destiny is several million years old the ship has suffered a lot of degradation, there are some systems (noted in the build) that are not operating or at full capacity/strength. Consumables for instance are not at full three year capacity, the ship had no stores for the crew, and the only stores Destiny has now were either bought with the Icarus personnel, the Lucian Alliance, scrounged from planetary stops or grown/produced on board.

    special systems notes
    Control Chair
The Destiny interface chair is a device that was created by the Ancients and installed on Destiny. It appears to serve similar functions to the Repository of knowledge and Control chair units that have been seen in various other locations once controlled by the Ancients, and may be an earlier version of the same technology.
Unlike later Ancient Neural interface devices, which were widely used but performed only fixed functions, the Destiny neural interface chair is a versatile tool to be controlled and monitored by experts. It can perform a large variety of functions on an individual's brain and mind, functions still being discovered by the Destiny expedition. Whilst the Ancients left many programs in the Destiny database, some were unsuitable for the human brain, so the Tau'ri have both written software for and physically modified the chair to allow it to better work with their own kind.
Initially use of the chair was a very dangerous and caused users permanent brain damage, putting one user into a vegetative state.

    Kino Dispenser (fabricator)
The Kino dispenser is a device that manufactures and dispenses Kinos aboard the Destiny. It was created by the Ancients and discovered by Eli Wallace. The only known device sits in a room that Eli has claimed as his personal quarters. The device is shaped like a pedestal and has long tubes running up to the ceiling and out of sight. As one Kino is taken from the dispenser, the others advance and a new Kino is automatically manufactured. Therefore, the supply is theoretically limitless as long as the ship has enough of the required raw materials.
    http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Kino_dispenser

    Kino
A "Kino", named by Eli Wallace after the Russian "Kino-Pravda" meaning "film truth", is a sleek, softball-sized, self-levitating orb designed and built in mass quantities by the Ancients for use on the starship Destiny. Kinos contain a vast variety of sensors, able to scan atmospheric makeup and record audio and visual input. The device's movement can be controlled by the user, using either remotes or control consoles on the ship, but it is also capable of self-guidance.
    http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Kino

    Anti-grav sled
Cobbled together by Eli Wallace, using several Kino's attached to a aluminium medical stretcher. Can support up to 300kg's.

It Looks really good. I have only a few notes collected for the ship but I had no need to build it. Most ships I generate I use in some way or other and I have not come up with one.

Oh, You cone up with some of the best pics for your postings. Great posting.

Thanks Omega, I found this build interesting, mostly showcasing the difference in the my perceived differences in technology between Trek and Star Gate. I didn't quite know what SU's to assign the Star Gate, went with 50 as a guess. Then there was the stasis pods, thought about making them the same as Borg alcoves (100/su) but that didn't feel right, so I went with 10/su. For full Computer automation I assigned double the su's of the regular system (your Expanded Space Dock notes), Self Repair System and AI processor taken directly of Expanded Space Dock notes). Weapon systems were based on disruptor's, and I made a judgment call for the Main Battery (made it in between a type 10 and 11, and assigned it a 4sht/rnd rate of fire).

You may also note I have changed the power systems slightly, went from a single large power core (original build) to 16 micro power cores (what was shown in write up's of Destiny), I had to reduce the point defense turret numbers to 24, but over-all I am thinking this final build is now representative of Destiny. I have also add to and modified several other systems that I either forgot to add or realized was inconsistent with the build. I have also had the chance to flush out many of the systems, adding a lot of content to expand the build.

Seed ships are unmanned spaceships launched from Earth by the Ancients tens of millions of years ago. A minimum of 2,000 years before launching the Destiny, the Ancients sent out dozen's of these ships to make a path for the Destiny across the universe. Their mission was to search for suitable planets, plant Stargates on them, then transmit that information back to the Destiny. The crew aboard Destiny would then explore these planets. These ships are fully automated, and require no crew to operate.

Wave Man, the term "wave man" is the English translation of 'Ronin' (Japanese word) and literately translates to "wandering person" and in a modern context a WaveMan is one who is socially adrift or a SalaryMan who is between employers.

The forward area contains the cockpit of the vessel with all control functions and three main viewports. In the cockpit are three chairs: the pilot's chair with the flight control interface, the supplemental navigation control area and the supplemental weapons area. Behind the supplementary controls are the main weapons and navigational control systems, with basic stool-like seating. The aft area is the passenger and storage area with bench-style seating, six on each side, for a total of twelve passengers. The benches have over-the-shoulder safety harnesses for the passengers to protect them from turbulence. The ship is accessed via the door at the rear, which when docked externally with Destiny opens into an airlock.

I just fininished rewatching SG Universe and have updated the Destiny write up with the most up to date info

**NOTE, as at the conclusion of season 2 of SG Universe, Destiny has only 1 month of supplies for the crew (food and water) and power reserve would be at the bare minimum, the ship would have to resupply it's fuel almost immediately after the 3 year journey between galaxy's.
