    I found a new ship

Hay, I was thumbing through the deviantart pages while waiting for something to happen and I found this ship. I am thinking it would make a good addition to the fleet but does anyone know the specs on it? If I have the specs I can work up a ship, or do I guess at it.

    What do you think?

I'm curious as to why, when doing digital art, they carefully replicated Stabilo highlighter pens for the nacelles... I can see why they were used in some kitbashed models for Wolf 359 - it's a short cut on a tight schedule. Painstakingly depicting the pens in a digital medium saves no work, though, so why not do something original? Makes no sense to me as both an artist ans a ship designer.

I don't know that but over at Starship Modelers they show a how to where they build a starship using nacelles that look like that to build a model and they do look a little like Voyagers nacelles. I have seen ships that look like the design from the Original Series spinoff ships but not a Next Generations version like this. If I had a side view and a front view I could make and estimate but the angles aren't helpful.

The only place they have been used in TV Star Trek was in Best of Both Worlds I & II, in the Battle of Wolf 359 wrecked fleet. Here is two such ships, the USS Chekov and the USS Ahwahnee; seen here before they applied the battle damage: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X5S_IrO4mX...S%2BChekov.jpg and http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9yO7JyWzvy...2BAhwahnee.jpg Like I said, in kitbashing a model, it's a useful shortcut, but in CGI, there is no shortcut in using them, as it's just as much work to 'model' them as it is to do something unique. From a design point of view, it's a cop-out.

and from the pics it just looks like Galaxy-class variant (seems to use the exact same saucer), so as far as stats why not just use the uprated Galaxy build?

The aesthetic lack of the pens-nacelles is more than made up for in the strange joy of kitbashing becoming continuity.

If I use the Galaxy class specs I would have to make little changes as such as dropping a couple phaser arrays, cutting the number of torpedoes, reducing cargo down a little and possibly reducing the science stuff down. I will think about this awhile. To me they still look a little like voyagers nacelles.

Here is my version of the Variant of a Galaxy Class Starship I found and gave it a totally different registration number and generated a vessel that could be a good candidate. I reduced some systems a little here and there nevertheless much of the ship is still a Galaxy-class equal. I lost 103 SU’s by cutting out two Phaser arrays that would have been on the pylons outer curved edges, one photon torpedo launcher, reduced the torpedoes carried, reduced the size of the cargo bays and shuttles as well as losing 60 personnel from the crew. These changes are the result of a smaller nacelle and a slightly narrower secondary hull. This is my version what do you think?

    Description and Notes
Fleet Data: the Liberty class Frigate is a design off shoot of the Galaxy class starship with a minimal reduction in crew and science abilities as the ship has been tasked with patrol duties and tactical missions more than the science duties of a Galaxy class. Starfleet believes that the ship is not needed as the ship is a pure combat vessel more than a science vessel. Debate is still going on over the need to upgrade the science systems to that of the Galaxy class or scrap any further production of the class. The first ship the U.S.S. Liberty has been designated a diplomatic vessel as it has enlarged conference areas and state rooms.

    Enjoy.

Given the size of the nacelles, it looks like it would be size 6 or 7.

nacelle size does not dictate Size Class in SpaceDock, OAL mostly governs Size and a length of 642.51 meters makes it Size 8.

Judging by the nacelle size and the window spacing, it's nowhere near 600m. Probably in the 300-350m range shared by the Cheyenne and the Springfield.

be that as it may, Omega has put the length the same as the Galaxy-class (and rightly so IMO) as it looks to use the exact same saucer as the Galaxy. Even if it was the same length as the Nebula-class (442.3m) makes it Size 7. Anyway this entire line of questioning is pointless as Omega has put it at 642.51m so it is Size 8.

I would add if you think it should be 360m OAL (and Size 6) than do a Space Dock write up for that size. The thing is you will find it will most probably turn out to be similar to the Centaur-class (OAL 381.87m, Size 6)
