    The New Era of Star Wars ships

    The group I am with had expressed an interest in the new Star Wars Movie ships and maybe doing something in the Star Wars universe in the era of the First Order. So I looked up some of the ships and made the following for ships of that era. Personally I thought the movie was good, however I still am a bigger fan of the original three movies that I grew up on. I felt that here was something missing from the movie but that is my opinion.

    To start with I give you the First Orders Star Destroyer. It is an SU hog as it has more guns and crew than any Star Trek ship, but the finished product looks too good to me to fuss with cutting down the costs. All the details came right out of the DK ships Book for the Force Awakens the size places it around half the size of a Classic era Super Star Destroyer and twice that of the Imperial Class Star Destroyers. I am not going into a rant on where is see the Super Star Destroyer Executer marked at a length over 19 kilometers and it was originally based on a length of 8 kilometers making it about the same length as Babylon 5 station.

    Here are the two types of New First Order TIE Fighters that were sported in the movie. They are really not much different than the Classic or Rebellion Era TIE fighters. The only difference was they have shields like they did in the TIE fighter Games when the advanced models came along.

    all look great, and you weren't joking when you said the Star Destroyer was a SU hog.

    As far as the Star Destroyer, IMO it should not have holodecks (Wars don't have the sophisticated holotech equivalent to Trek vessels), and I would have added auto-repair systems, droids from medical bays (2-1B surgical droids, FX series medical assistant droids and diagnostic droids for starters) and engineering (astromechs for the aforementioned auto-repair systems) and bacta tanks for the medical bays.

    We treat the Droids like the life forms they are just characters that the group can play and they work and repair just like the rest. In Star Wars I have never heard of any auto repair systems so it may be a tech that they do not have just yet. Sense Droids do not use oxygen they can roam the ship here and there or where ever. Don't worry they are there.

    I always thought that the droids were the auto repair systems (for example the scene Episode 1 on the Naboo cruiser with R2-D2 and other astromech droids repairing the shield generators)

    This has been my understanding, too. Star Wars is a throwback to early science fiction stories where all manner of specialised humaniform robots did tasks rather than just having systems built into vehicles/ships/buildings to take care of routine matters. Hell, in 1940's/50's SF, individual appliances were independant robotic devices rather than being tied into a single network. Star Wars continues forward with that sort of philosophy. Even Threepio was astounded by the concept of an automatic assembly line.

    Droids are many things not just repair and medical. We have had players who portrayed droids like Artoo and Threepieo that were characters just like any other character. Droids only do the work that they are told to do unless there is a sentient to their characters. As I understand it the auto repair system fixes whatever the ship when damaged. Unless the droid is told to do it the work does not get done. Well that is my understanding of it. Also the auto repair cuts down on the number of the crew needed on the ship and with crews in the thousands if not the hundreds of thousands what are their assignments? These are just the points that are debated when we were setting up our rules. If you want an auto repair it is easy enough to put in but our group like a pirate ship voted that the auto repair would be a little more advanced than the Star Wars Universe an why would you need a Wookiee copilot to repair anything.

    fair enough mate, I was just making suggestions, use or reject them as you like.

    From the movie Episode 1 it looked to me like astromechs were a part (or constituted) the damage control of the vessel, with the computer controlling the effort and the astromechs moving to repair the ship.
