History: The U.S.S. Valiant Climb, NCC-64210, was developed by the ASDB to test new 3X Technology, especially Holodecks and Warp Drive, successfully making at least 3 sustained trips at Warp 9.75 for 10 minutes each in 2345, 2350, and 2352. Since then, the ship has been used almost entirely as a Test Ship, only once being sent out on a 7-year mission of Exploration and Diplomacy from 2376 to 2382 under the command of Sofolk of Vulcan.

Ed Note: This ship is supposed to be the first (in-continuity) ship to use the "marker pen" style nacelles seen on the Cheyenne and Challenger.

History: The first original warship design to replace the old ships left behind by the Old Kings, the D-1 was an old, clunky, rusty, inferior fusion-powered ship, barely able to deal with Romulans and Pirates, it was the only Laser-Armed Klingon Warship, and despite it's lone forward Laser Cannon replaced with a Disruptor Cannon in the 2156 refit, the D-1 was still quite an inferior ship, and quickly fell into retirement in the 2160s, replaced by the D-2 (2162), and the D-3 (2183).

Ed Note: I got the Star Trek TOS Sketchbook in August 2008, and studied Matt Jefferies' sketches of theKlingon Battlecruiser, going to the short klingon-looking one with the blobby, oval command pod for the D-1's design.
