History: The SS Ferdinand Machallendas was named after an early 22nd century champion of astronomy and going to other planets for exploration and first contact from Sicily, and is a unique ship with an elongated pentagonal hull with more cargo and shuttle space. It performed three voyages from 9-11 years long, finally going into the museum at Memory Alpha in 2164.
