The question is, are you going to alter the templates to differentiate between the Caretakers Ocampa (Healers) and Tanis's group (Psions)?

Personally I feel that there is enough room to warrant two similar templates... After all Kes has lived far longer and developed powers that the people who raised her thought possible...

Here's some quick stats I jotted down for the Miners from "Homestead". No species name seems to have been given. Only the Commander's name was given. ("Nocona")Not a full Template, but basic NPC stats.

    FIT: 2 [6]
    Vitality:+1
    COORD: 2 [5]
    INT: 2 [5]
    PRE: 2 [5]
    Willpower:+1
    Empathy:-1
    PSI: 0 [4]

    Advantages/Disadvantages:
    Toughness (+1) (thick, scaled hide)
    Stubborn (-1)

Use the Colonist Overlay from the DS9 Core Game for basic skills. Substitute local Language and Culture, etc.

    Yes, that was my goal.

I've unfortunately been unable to work on anything for the past couple of weeks due to family concerns, but I plan to resume working this week or next.

    Exclamation

OK, to accompany the earlier Kazon species template, I have developed the Trabe template. A species driven into nomadic exile by the uprising of their former slaves, the Kazon.

    The Trabe

    Attributes
    Fitness 2, vitality +1
    Co-ordination 2
    Intellect 3
    Presence 2, empathy -1
    Psi 0

    Skills
    Athletics (Choose Specialisation) 1 (2)
    Culture (Trabe) 2 (3)
History (Trabe and Kazon) 1 (2)
    Languages; Trabe 2
    Kazon 1
Sciences, Any (Choose Specialisation) 1 (2)
    choose one from the following;
Engineering, Systems (Choose Specialisation) 2 (3)
    or
Sciences, Space (Choose Specialisation) 2 (3)
    or
Ships Systems (Choose Specialisation) 2 (3)

    Advantages/Disadvantages
    Resolute +3, +1 Courage Point, Exile -2 (*), Species Enemy (Kazon) -3

*I have given a lower point Exile from that presented in the DS9 rulebook, as the full definition does not apply. The Trabe were driven from their homeworld or slaughtered, those that survive live as a society of refugees on the run from the Kazon, but unable to return home...

This works out as a 49 point template, however feedback would also be appreciated.

All right. Here is the racial Template for the planetbound Ocampa as seen in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Caretaker":

    Ocampa

    Attributes

    Fitness 2 [5]
    Coordination 2 [5]
    Intellect 2 [5]
    Presence 3 [6]
    Empathy +1
    Psi 1 [6]
    Range +1
    Focus -1

    Skills

    Athletics (Choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Culture (Ocampa) 2 (3)
    History (Ocampa) 2 (3)
    Languages
    Ocampa 2
    Projective Telepathy 1
    Science (Choose specialization) 1 (2)
World Knowledge (Ocampa Arcology) 1 (2)

    Advantages/Disadvantages

    Curious (+1), Sexy (+2), Pacifism (-3)

The planetbound Ocampa - those protected by the Caretaker - have lived for over 500 generations below the surface of their homeworld. They dwell in a massive subterannean city designed and constructed for them by the Caretaker after he and his companion (Suspiria) accidentally destroyed their world's ecosystem.

The Ocampa are a very short-lived species, living only 8 or 9 years. Ocampa females usually undergo the elogium, or the process preceding mating, at age 3 or 4. Reproduction is a lengthy process requiring dedicated mates. When an Ocampa chooses a mate, it is usually for life.

The Ocampa culture is several thousands of years old. They were once a people with full control of the powers of their minds, but their reliance on the Caretaker for nearly 2000 standard years (~500 generations) has atrophied those abilities.

The surface of their planet is an arid wasteland controlled by the Kazon-Ogla, a particularly brutal sect. They are known to capture and enslave those Ocampa unlucky enough to journey to the surface.

For many years, the Ocampa cared for terminally ill aliens sent to them by the Caretaker. These individuals were infected with a virus designed to produce an offspring for the Caretaker that would continue to protect the Ocampa after his death. Unfortunately for the Ocampa, none of these experiments were successful and the Caretaker died, leaving the Ocampa to fend for themselves.

The Ocampa city was provided by the Caretaker with enough power to last for approximately five years after his death. Since that power source is believed to have run out aboyut two years ago, the fate of the Ocampa is unknown.

For the planetbound Ocampa I would be tempted to swap one of the Psi skills (possibly projective telepathy) for
Science, Any (choose specialisation) 1 (2)

The few scences we saw in the Arcology showed that they were skilled healers, and that medical science seemed to be their only focus.

Although later we also saw the 'rebels' in their aboretum... So there is screen use of Medical and Life sciences... With the possibility of some of the more theoretical sciences going on elsewhere...

The Pacifism defined in the core rulebook is a -1, -3 or -5, so I would increase that to the -3 version (Self defence only)...

Which actually rounds the template off at 51 (with or without the skill swap suggested above) points for not adding it up, thats pretty good.

Out of interest, is there a reason why you dont worry about the points values? I know it varies slightly, but averages out at a 50 point template, but with some of the more details species, it could be easy to go Way over the points leading to unbalanced characters?

I'd considered leaving out Receptive Telepathy (since we saw the Ocampan doctor mentally communicate with Torres in "Caretaker") and replace it with Science (Choose specialization) 1 (2)... in fact, that's what the original Template had. I don't see that as a problem.

The Pacifism (-2) was a typo... it should have been Pacifism (-3).

I've edited the Ocampa Template (above) and made these changes.

As for why I don't count points, that's just the way I do it. They usually come out pretty close (I actually do count them in a half-assed sort of manner), but I just wat people to realize that they might be off somewhat.

The Suspirian Ocampa will be posted shortly... once I finish them up.

    Question

Is there a Treacherous (or similar) Disadvantage? If so, I'd slap that one onto the Trabe Template as well.

I'd also provide them with either some more Skills (can't think of any in particular) or a new Advantage or two, though I'm not sure what would be appropriate.

On that note, is the Kazon Template too point heavy? I was just looking over it and it seems a bit high... or is it just me?

I haven't a clue where to start on this race.

    SPOILER!!!

Last night’s Voyager involved this race. They even spoke of a Hierarchy (? implied some government entity) who would be angered by their activities. It showed many different technology advancements as well. In fact, you can download their ship on the www.startrek.com website. It is one of the Voyager wallpapers.

    Hope this helps,

    Overlookers

    Attributes

    Fitness 2 [5]
    Coordination 2 [3]
    Intellect 3 [6]
    Logic +1
    Perception +1
    Presence 2 [5]
    Willpower -1
    Empathy -1
    Psi 0 [0]

    Skills

Any Science (Choose specialization) 1 (2)
    Culture (Overlooker) 2 (3)
    Espionage (Choose specialization) 1 (2)
    History (Overlooker) 2 (3)
    Language: Overlooker 2
Starship Tactics (choose Specialization) 2 (3)
World Knowledge (Overlooker homeworld) 1 (2)

    Typical Advantages/Disadvantages
Code of Honor (Duty to the Hierarchy) (-3), Greedy (-1), Indecisive (-1)

The Overlookers are a short, squat race of brown-skinned humanoids native to the Delta Quadrant. Their entire society is based on statistical probabilities as determined by a massive computer system called the Hierachical Central System (HCS), commonly referred to as the Hierarchy. All command decisions are made by the Hierarchy after all of the relevant data has been submitted.

The Overlookers have had three separate encounters with the starship U.S.S. Voyager during its time in the Delta Quadrant, twice as adversaries and once as allies.

The Overlookers possess superior scanning and stealth technologies including sensors able to penetrate standard shields and powerful cloaking devices.

Though the Overlookers appear to be exceptional strategists, they are limited by the decisions made by the Hierarchy.

P.S. What trait(s) would you use to represent the Overlookers' general "weaseliness"?

    Hey Mac.

As the author of the AI document that so many of us enjoy, do you have any plans on building the Pralor and Cravic species?

Might these be incorporated into the next AI sourcebook rewrite? Perhaps even the AI bombs?
