Might also be able to create small stations this way. A stripped down version of the Galaxy drive section could move multiple saucers into a system and link them. Large enough for a forward base to launch support ships from, etc.

    Post saucer seperation

This may not be the forum, if not - sorry!

From the earlier MVAM thread I got thinking about saucer seperation. Someone suggested different saucer sections for different purposes. Anyone else thinking of drawing up a "battleship" or "carrier" saucer for the Galaxy? Might be an easy way to shift gears on a campaign.

Not exactly, I admit, but my current project, the Vasa-class Heavy Cruiser, is a testbed carrier with a similar function. It has saucer separation, so that the saucer section can 'lag behind' on the edge of a battle releasing attack fighters while the battle section wades into the fray.

I'm not really *sure* Starfleet would have a use for more than two or three such vessels, if at all, of course, but the mental exercise doesn't hurt.
