DESCRIPTION AND NOTES
The Ko-class Surveyor is yet another vessel from the Merlin-class family of designs. Sharing the common D-shaped saucer with short engineering hull and quad warp nacelles mounted on variable geometry pylons, the Ko-class is almost identical to the Merlin with very few visible external differences. Only the slightly smaller warp nacelles and enlarged shuttlebay give any clues to differentiate the two designs to the casual observer.
Intended primarily for surveying within the boundaries of the Federation, the Ko-class is lightly armed with just a pair of phaser arrays. Even though it carries a torpedo launcher, this is primarily configured for launching probes and is both slow firing and fitted with a small magazine.
The crew complement is increased over the Merlin due to the need to carry scientific staff for astrophysical studies which also requires improved and enlarged science systems. An extra personal holodeck has been fitted to help keep the extra crew entertained, but without larger eating facilities the design is considered somewhat cramped.
