I was just poking through Spacedock and the SRM updating myself with the NOVA class. Now according to her recreation package she has 1 main holodeck and 2 personal ones...Now while I know what a main one is, what are these personal ones?
Spacedock refers me to Holodeck Adventures, but in there I could find no description of a Personal Holodeck.
I've always been under the impression that a 'personal holodeck' is something that you'd find in the recreation lounges on a starship. Maybe about the size of an average bedroom, with room for only one, or maybe two people to move around and act.
They'd be used for more 'personal' recreation that didn't involve a great deal of leaping and jumping about (say, flight simulations, saunas, etc. We won't go into too much detail here, or it'll just get smutty! )
Anyway...that's always been my interpretation...

In the Voy ep 'Equinox', they had a 'poor man's holodeck'. Which was something like an earpiece that project images into your head for lack of a sci explanation.
Aldaron, your description is pretty much right on the money. Personal holodecks are just much smaller 'decks, often used for training exercises and such as opposed to full-fledged holonovels. Though they do have plenty of recreational purposes as well.
The headpieces worn by the Equinox crew were stated to be something they used instead of a holodeck (personally, I always assumed the Nova class ships didn't have any holodecks, in the same way the Defiant doesn't - the ship is too small and too specialized). It wasn't made clear if the headpieces were something they rigged up themselves or something they got from a culture they met on their travels.

Okay I get it now. So these are like Holosuites! Ahhhh...
Capt Hunter, actually watched Equinox part one last night and the tech was given to them by an alien race, a race who "treat every first contact as a reason to party. I wish we had met more species like them."
Also I get the impression from the episode that with their ship badly damaged, the holodecks were jsut off-line as a waste of power and resources.
