Thread: Anti Matter Maneuvers...

    Post Anti Matter Maneuvers...

    Hey Steve and the Guys...

I would like an opinion on a tactic that I think is missing from Spacedock.

In my game a runabout pilot recently considered using an anti-matter spread. So I thought about it and couldnt remember the rule. Not to worry says I, I have Spacedock less than 2 feet away I'll look it up.

So I eventually find the Anti-Matter burst as a tactic used to break tractor beams and damage them against use.

But no sign of the anti-matter spread. Which from the description is very much like the tactic used by the Enterprise-D's saucer section in order to blind the Borg cube to Worf and Geordis shuttle in Best of Both Worlds...

So what is the concensus of opinion on what the effects of this tactic should be? And should it find its way into the ECM section of the rules?

There could certainly be a rule for something like that. I'd have to go back and watch BOBW (a-gain ::sigh: to get precise details, but I'd say it would go something like this:

    1. It costs 10 Power (and, when I get around to incorporating the supplies and consumables rules I wrote for the Voyager RPG into SD terms, it'll cost you some of your ship's anti-matter as well).

    2. You have to be within Short beam weapon range to try it (or maybe even Point Blank).

    3. It requires a Moderate (8) Shipboard Systems (Tactical) Test (or whatever Test seems appropriate).

    4. If it succeeds, the target suffers from sensor interference with a Strength equal to 5+1d6 for 1+1d6 rounds.

    Sound good? Other ideas?

That sounds pretty good from the description from the encycliopedia...

try to maker your power'ressource a one shoot weapon is a stupid idea. Warp off, phasers minimal power and in foget it, how you calcul the time of detonation?????

warp core isn't a weapon, is the power of your weapons and a ship without it is severly reduce

I think you may have misunderstood the tactic. Basically this tactic puts tiny amounts of anti-matter through to the exterior hull (If I remember correctly, it goes through the Phaser arrays, if anyone could confirm this?)
The end result is a series of small but very bright explosions, not unlike fireworks that are designed to blind and dazzle sensors...

But aparty from the anti-matter - the warp core shouldn't be involved... Thats a different thread entirely!

    Dan,

just bought BoBW at a 'dying' Blockbuster Video for $5...

The Antimatter spread does indeed appear to be emitted through the phaser array. I would suspect via some kind of EM jacketing through the waveguides.

It is clearly tiny amounts of the antimatter, too, because the explosions are very small. They also 'trail' as they annihilate stray hydrogen atoms and the like along the way.

yes i dont undestand the tactics.
now i think is a gaing time tactic.
its a beautiful firework but without a real damage impact.

    in CGG it say
"USING HARMLESS ANTI-MATTER EXPLOSIONS IN A PYROTECHNIC DISPLAY, ACTING-CAPTAIN RIKER IMPLEMENTED A "BRILLANTLY UNORTODOX" plan to confuse the borg in battle."

in fact, use on a ennemy how never read it, you win initiative is ennemy captain loss a inteligence difficult test or a starship tactic (Starfleet) , if he succes, you loss initiative and you cant use you phasers(how fire spread) this round

maybe for modifications make test in starship systems (phaser) and another one in engeneering starship (phaser)
