Question quick question for Steve about pulse phasers

    Hiya all.

While looking through a recent Trek magazine, I noticed mention that the Miranda has pulse phasers. When I thought back to the Wrath of Khan, I remembered that the Reliant itself had phasers that acted a lot like pulse phasers. My question is how this integrates with Spacedock. Will there be an earlier grade of pulse phasers in the TOS/Movie era SRM?

I'm going to have to review that article (my copy hasn't arrived yet). AFAIK, the reference to pulse phasers on the Miranda refers solely to later versions of the ship, or upgraded versions, not TOS-era versions.

But if the TOS-era ships do have 'em, rest assured that SRM: TOS will have rules for 'em.

I see no reference to "pulse phasers" in the article. The text does refer to rollbar-mounted "phaser cannons" (which we saw firing in STII, of course). For a TOS-era Miranda, I suppose these could be treated as phaser emitters with more power, a higher rate of fire, or both, vis-a-vis the hull-mounted phaser banks.

Ah, the Miranda pulse phasers. Yes the Reliant's phaser's fired a bit like pulse phasers, but so did the Enterprise's phasers in the same battle. So they are probably not some major technological difference between the rollbar and ordinary phasers.

Kahn used the rollbar phasers in preference to all other weapons. Kahn was mad but not stupid so he probably had a reason for doing so. Are the rollbar phasers more powerful? Longer ranged? More accurate? Able to recharge quicker? We can't tell from the evidence presented.

Fandom has long interpreted the big phasers on the corners of the rollbars as Megaphasers or Phaser Cannons but there's no on screen evidence to support these deignations. (The cannons aren't canon...) The DS9 TM lists pulse phasers in the Miranda specs, but doesn't specify what these are. The picture shows a Reliant type.

No Miranda after the Reliant has ever been seen to fire the rollbar phasers. So maybe they've been removed in 24th century refits.

The SRM Miranda specs do not include the rollbar corner phasers at all (and nor should they if they've been removed by the timeframe of the SRM). The pulse phasers listed there are the big outboard pods on the Saratoga and Soyuz types, which have never been seen to fire and which many people interpret as sensors not weapons.

Whups, my bad. Somehow I saw 'pulse' in front of 'phaser cannons.' Never try to read when yer sick as a dog.

    Oh well, I'm getting betta!

Looking through Spacedock in preparation for another friend's game, I noticed a couple of other things that confused me, but I'll start a thread with a new title for that.

    Many thanks, peeps.
