    Question The Borg

I was wondering: In the series the borg adapt to both phaser and topedoe fire. Is there a rule in Spacedock that I missed? Or isn't this covered yet?
I am about to start a tabletop version of the WOLF359 re-enactment held here a week ago...

I'm dutch, but my french is good enoug to understand what u wrote, but not good enough to reply in french...

Anyway, does this rule also apply for SpaceDock? i don't think so, since you do damage in hundreds instead of tens.

    Please help me!

There is, as yet, no specific rule in Spacedock for Borg adaptation to attacks. There's only so much I can fit in that one book; there's just not room for every little thing.

Whenever I get around to writing up an SRM: Borg, it will definitely have advanced rules for this.

While running the online re-creation of Wolf 359 over the past few weeks, I jury-rigged the following rule: whenever an attack hit the cube, I rolled 1d6; on a 1, the cube adapted and the attack was ineffective. I assumed, for the sake of simplicity, that the cube could adapt to torpedo explosions, though in fact I rather doubt that's the case.

Of course, a more advanced rule on the subject would have to go a lot further, covering such issues as:

-- adapting to beams (possible) vs. adapting to torpedoes (probably not possible)
-- whether loss of shield strength to attacks affects the ability to adapt
-- the Narrators' tracking of attacks that have been adapted to, which would automatically be ineffective if tried again

There's lots more to deal with, of course, but that provides some idea of the scope of the issue.

Thanks, but why wouldn't the borg be able to adapt to torpedoes? They do it in the series... (see BoBw part 1 and the episode with Q)

Before I am prepared to make a final statement about what the Borg can and cannot adapt to, I'd have to go back and review every episode featuring them. My comments above were mainly from a standpoint of logic, not derived from a comprehensive review of all available information.

    Cool

Well, I think I'm allright for that WOLF359 battle I plan thanks to your rule. But I believe 1 in 6 to be a little too low a chance: here's my modification of the rule:

(all shots fired by the same weapon type, regardless of how much damage)
first shot: 1 in 6 to adapt
    second shot: 2 in 6
    third shot: 3 in 6
    fourth shot: 4 in 6
and all subsequent shots: 5 in 6

I know thay won't be able to fire much this way until the borg adapt, but when the borg adapt thay simply have to make a remodulate phasers test with engineering adn they're up and running again... They lose at least a single round of firing when remodulating...

    How 'bout that?

A progressive adaption rule is definately needed. I seem to remember doing something like that just in percentages with the first at a base 10% and up from there.

Mind you my PCs never let me have Wolf 359. Destroying the Borg Cube and there damn alternate timelines

To simplifiy things a little, in my campaign I rolled a d6 to determine how many shots a given weapon (or modulation) could get off before the Borg adapted. If the characters rolled a dramatic success when adapting a given weapon, then I rolled an additional d6.

I don't think the Borg would take more than 12 shots before adapting.

This applies to Borg drones as well as Borg ships in my campaign.

    Question

Another question: can the Borg regenerate their ablative armor?

Yes, pretty much all the physical systems on a Borg ship "heal" themselves, unless the whole ship is so badly damaged that it's effectively destroyed. The basic Spacedock rule is that a Borg ship regenerates 1 SU per round; you apply that to whatever system you want (not to all systems at once).

So, sure, they regrow their ablative armor, but slowly. The SRM: Borg will probably have advanced, alternate, and/or optional rules for this sort of thing.

I have done the exact same thing,
thats what makes the frequency shifting firing pattern very useful as it would reset the odds after shifting frequenies.
