    DESCRIPTION AND NOTES:
Fleet Data: The Typhon Development Project first began in the late 2360’s to meet Starfleet’s need for a vessel that could be rapidly deployed and support a prolonged perimeter patrol along the frontiers of Federation space.
The starship features many of the design innovations that grew from the Defiant Development Project, and the final result is a strengthen spaceframe built around a compact form. The initial design brief was vague and many speculated that this was intentional to eliminate any protest from some of the more conservative Admiralty and Federation council members. The design called for a Starfleet vessel detailed as a Mobile Support Platform, but from the initial engineer drawings the Typhon was designed to support extended combat operations. The design did call for the Typhon to support no less than 26 Valkyrie Space Superiority System, which detractors to the militarization of Starfleet felt was at best an abusive waste of Starfleet resources, to the worst a betrayal of the Federation founding principles of exploration and peaceful coexistence.
Like the Defiant before it, there were those in the Advanced Starship Design Bureau who fought the development of the Typhon as being a dedicated warship, and argued that the newly created MSP designation was nothing more than a ruse to hide the fact. Due to internal conflict within the ASDB the design proceeded slowly, and seemed to be doomed to never becoming more than a theoretical study until 2370, when the U.S.S. Odyssey was destroyed by a small group attack ships.
News of the Odyssey Incident rocked Starfleet command and revealed a new threat to Federation security – the Dominion. Starfleet quickly began restructuring to meet this threat. Using data gathered from the Perimeter Design Directive, and the release of additional workforce and research facilities to project the Typhon was completed in record time. Despite the modified deployment schedule the Typhon was not ready to participate in the Borg Incursion of 2373, or most of the Dominion War. The Typhon’s primary weapon system, the Valkyrie fighter were deployed to front-line outposts in 2374
The Typhon has a brick like appearance, a design, which incorporated a reinforced skeletal frame, and a compact design to reduce target-angle-of-attack. Like the Defiant, all vulnerable systems were pulled inside the spaceframe, and the four warp nacelles were pulled close to the spaceframe of the engineering section.
A dedicated launch system was designed for the deployment of fighters into combat. Sixteen launch-tubes arranged in two groups of four bays allowing for sixteen Valkyrie fighters to be deployed in five seconds. The launch-bays are configured to support the craft consumables through a series of quick-release umbilicals that separate at launch. A fighter can be loaded into the launch cradle in just under five minutes.
Conventional support craft and fighter recovery is accomplished by an elaborate hanger system, which can be seen extended from the Typhon’s ventral surface. A series of dedicated tractor beam systems are available to in craft recovery, and the hanger bays are also equipped with a series of arrestor fields and containment fields in case of an emergency landing.
Typical craft assigned to the Typhon include the Starfleet Attack Fighters, as well as the new Valkyrie fighter. Typically 30 Valkyrie fighters are stationed aboard, with the rest of the hanger space dedicated to conventional shuttlecraft, or Hoppers.
The Typhon is also intended to provide transportation for members of Starfleet’s Rapid Response Teams, and an elaborate transporter network, as well as flight deck support facilities exists to compliment their activities. Crew facilities also exist for a contingent of RRT personal and their operations. Standard operating procedure is to have standardized equipment for Specialized Operations onboard the Typhon’s to equip rotating RRT teams that may be assigned to the starship.
With the end of the Dominion War, production of the Typhon class has been slowed in favor of cruisers and explorer class starships such as the Legacy-class. Ten Typhon class ships were completed as wartime production tapered off, and three were lost during the final months of the Dominion War, including the first ship of the class the U.S.S. Typhon. Eight addition spacecraft were under construction at this time, but a decision was made not to complete them. Instead these vessels were broken down into manageable segments and dispersed to secured sites across the Federation.

    Noteworthy Vessels/service records/encounters:
U.S.S. Typhon (prototype, NX-85808) lost during the assault on Cardassian Prime; U.S.S. Koschei (NCC-88555) attacked the Morlass Shipyards in 2375; U.S.S. Chin’toka Pass, NCC-85931 commissioned in 2377.

Design Notes: Completely ignored the Fortress Mode, in which the Typhon retracts the ventral shuttlebay, and basically compresses like a Turtle. In addition, the Typhon is deployed by a Sovereign class, and is attached to the engineering section of the Enterprise E in the opening trailer of the game Star Trek: Invasion. That is also ignored. The Typhon also utilizes a series of “High Impact/React Gun Turrets: - which are utilized during the game. This just seemed to push the Typhon to an entirely new level of ship, but for those interested, here are some stats. Perhaps these are Post-Dominion War class upgrades. Each unit is valued at 37 SUs and adds an additional 148 SU to the Typhon’s total cost. Of course the additional EPS routing requires the loss of the 5 luxury quarters - or perhaps altering the existing tactical systems.

    Cool

...and Brian K does it again!

Good job. You made some wise choices in converting a 'super ship' from the game system into a viable, if questionable, LUGTrek vessel. A fine complement for your previous work on the Valkyrie.

    Thanks.

Yeah, the Typhon is one ugly ship, but it has been bugging me for a bit, so I thought I would give it a spin.

Small, over armed, with fighters. Gah!

    Question

What is this Game that you extrapulated this vessel from? Never heard of it.

It is from Star Trek: Invasion for the playstation. A trek game that looks a lot like Colony Wars. Well, I guess it has the same developer...so that is a given.
