Cmdr Seylar's response to Capt Marques' response to her invitation:

Seylar nodded. "Very well. We shall await your shuttles arrival, our hangar is already clear. I do hope you will still let us send you the ale? Would you consent to it being transported or would you like it delivered by shuttle as well?"

Not a vital system! What the heck do you think stops the ship going 'poof' every time it goes to warp?

Actually, it's good that the Starfleeters are trying to understand and negotiate with the Romulans.

But, I was channeling a Klingon, I think.

Now, now, I'm sure that Commander Seylar has the best of intentions. I'm just not very sure who they're best for.

    Doh! For the Romulans!

Seriously, hang on folks. This game is taking so long because we're playing out 5 second to 15 minute turns over several days at a time. Believe it or not, the battle has only been going on for about an hour at most.

And I'm fairly sure there will be a battle

    Capt. Marques' gracious reply:

"Of course Commander. That would be an honor to accept such gift from you. The crew of the USS Vanguard will appreciate your demonstration of friendship. Deliver the gift using one of your shuttles. Our hangar will be opened to you. By the way, our delegation is preparing to depart, but perhaps it takes sometime to reach your ship. When they leave our hangar, I'll contact you."
    Transmission ends.

    Turn 8 Results:

    This is a long turn.

The Romulan shuttlecraft Dart leaves the Star Runner's hangar bay and moves through the asteroid belt to rendevous with USS Vanguard, taking up a position aft of Vanguard. The Recovery Bay control room locks docking tractors on the Dart and the Weapons Module Fire Control Room performs an extensive scan of Dart and its contents.

The Starfleet Type 7 shuttlecraft Onizuka, bearing LtCmdr Lipumano (CAG) and Lt Lor (Science Officer) plus two Security Guards, leaves USS Vanguard and rendevous with the fighters Sparrow and Hornet from Alpha and Charlie Wings. These fighters escort Onizuka through the belt and then take up guard stations some 450,000km aft of Star Runner while Onizuka moves up to just aft of Star Runner's hangar bay.

The remainder of Alpha Wing and Charlie Wing move closer to Star Runner, shields up, weapons at hot standby.

Bravo Wing moves out of the Borg Debris field and parallels USS Vanguard's track as the Vanguard moves deeper into the belt and closer to Star Runner. The group of four shuttles moves back to rendevous with Vanguard.

The Romulan courier Nightmare hasn't been seen since the battle at Planet 3.

At the end of Turn 8, Alpha, Charlie, and Escort have sensor locks on Star Runner.

Sensor scans of the Romulan Shuttle indicate the presence of a plasma charge.

After a bit of chit-chat between the two commanders- still pretending to be nice to each other- Commander Seylar remotely detonates the plasma charge while the shuttle is being held right aft of the USS Vanguard's Recovery Bay.

When all parties have had a chance to respond to this situation, we will proceed with Turn 9.

    Thanks for bearing with us...

Well, folks, after a couple of weeks of pussyfooting around with the (still) important aspects of roleplaying, its time for me to dust off my copy of Space Dock's Combat Rules. This is what we've been waiting for. Let's find out what will happen.

The first thing I have to do is determine the damage caused by a plasma charge going off next to an unshielded Akira class Heavy Cruiser...

Well, yeah. The shuttle was being held in the landing tractor beams only about 50 meters aft of the bay- well within the shields that had gone up when the Captain called for Red Alert.

Most of the explosion was channeled into the flight deck and spread to either side where the saucer impulse engines are located. Big Time Trouble.

Just be glad Seylar was anxious about it being discovered, and decided to detonate it then.

Think if you'd brought it into the shuttlebay first, or Seylar had forseen the possibility of not getting all the way in and had a mine in all three cases. You were lucky.

    Care to surrender now?
