    Exclamation DWS Mirrors Needed

Yes, it’s that time again – time for a new Netbook and a legion of sites to host it.

Because TrekRPGNet’s increasing popularity taking it to new heights, we unfortunately do not have the necessary bandwidth to host a new Netbook that will certainly demand a large number of downloads – our current traffic right now uses all of our considerable bandwidth.

With that said, I am interested in finding sites that can host the upcoming Dominion War Sourcebook that will shortly be available.

    The requirements:

    1. You must have at least 10MB of space to host the file (I don’t know the specific file size, so this number is on the high side).
    2. Your site must be available 24/7 – no local computer hookups that are “sporadically” online allowed.
    3. You will need to have anywhere from 1 to 2 GB of monthly bandwidth available to support the number of downloads anticipated. The more mirrors we have, the smaller this number can be. (See note below!)
    4. Your site must be such that the download can be initiated from an external site (TrekRPGNet).

If you feel you meet these requirements and would be happy to help out the TrekRPGNet community by hosting a file, please contact me for more details.

NOTE: Be aware of your ISP’s bandwidth policies! Some ISPs will shut down your site once you go over your set bandwidth allocation (if any), others will apply a cost-by-megabyte bandwidth surcharge. This could end up being a significant dollar amount! TrekRPGNet will not be held liable for bandwidth surcharges nor reimburse you!

    Question

    Drooling

Errr... I take "rotating" the availability of netbooks here in TrekRPGnet is out of question ??

I mean, just this once, couldn't you guys take Spacedock and SRM: Starfleet out of the air, temporarily and add DWS instead ? And then keep rotating the documents ?

PLease, don't flame me for my ignorance; as I'm a complete computer moron, I don't have a clue as to how this could be acomplished !

    No, we can't.

"...our current traffic right now uses all of our considerable bandwidth."

That pretty much sums up the state of affairs right now -- I can't host the Netbook here without removing features from TrekRPGNet or shutting down the Discussion Board for a month or so.

    Or have they turned snobish?

Not a vital system! What the heck do you think stops the ship going 'poof' every time it goes to warp?

Wish I had the traffic allotment; I'd do it.

As for me...I'm willing to do without the message boards for a month for the DWS...

Dang! I wish there wasn't this stupid clause in my ISP contract "Thou shalt not provide any kind of web or download service" or something . Well, I had only a 512Mo bandwidth for uplink, so ...

    Cool

No, I will not be shutting down features of the site simply to host an additional book. I will find other ways. I will not remove functionality from the site. My example was in the vein of “if I had no other choice, this is what I’d have to do.”

    I have choices.

Why not just limit the number of concurent connections? That would also help to free up bandwidth for us broadband users

Okay, the only thing I could find at Geocities that seems to concern this issue is the following statement:

    (o) use your home page (or directory)as storage for remote loading or as a door or signpost to another home page, whether inside or beyond Yahoo GeoCities

    So, can I host DWS?

I'm not sure my school would like me hogging bandwidth for something "important" like this. Otherwise, I'd volunteer.

Although, it's not like half the people at my school aren't using Napster, anyway. But, I digress.
