Post DWS - Jem Hadar Attack Fighters

First of let me say that the DWS is an excellent peice of source material and well published.

    Second, the question.

It has in the DWS that the Jem Hadar Attack Fighters are size 5 and are kick arse. Thats fair enough.

In SD it also has Jem Hadar Attack fighters that are size 3 and no as powerful.

So, I take it that the one in SD is the main fighter while the one in DWS is ???? Also where did the Dominion Carriers come from ?? I hope to god that I never come across one.

Hold on -- you're confusing two ships. The one in the DWS is the Jem'Hadar Fast Attack Ship. It's different from the Jem'Hadar Attack Fighter written up in the SRM1. Thus, the Size difference.

The Jem'Hadar Carrier is a ship I made up based on the thought that some of the ships shown in the big Dominion War battles were subtly different, and perhaps larger, from the basic Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser. I could be utterly incorrect (and probably am ), but as a class it makes sense and fits in well with the other Dominion vessels, I think.

I didn't really confuse them as I was always going to use both together. I say 'always' loosely, as I only got DWS today. I just really wanted an explaition of the difference between the two.

So, if I understand correctly, the one in SD is the main attack fighter and the one in DWS is of similar design only larger and more powerful. An upgraded version if you will. An interpretation on your behalf of the many varieties and advancements over the Dominion war period.

I love the idea of a carrier. I personally thought the next series of Star Trek should have been about a Federation Carrier Vessel. It would allow for many crew members while still having a core base of characters, but this is not the right place for that discussion.

That's essentially correct, except for this: it wasn't a development or advancement "over the Dominion War period." It's a design the Dominion has had in the field for decades, perhaps centuries (haven't thought that far ahead about Dominion history just yet ). The Dominion didn't develop any new ships for the War; in large part their strategy is based on having a small number of ship types they know really well, then producing large numbers of 'em.

For that matter, I don't recall mentioning any ships anyone developed just for, or during, the War; everyone was too busy fighting and surviving.

Oh go on, think... I cant think of anyone else here who is more qualified to write a Dominion sourcebook...

Of course this is in conjuction with all your other projects so I guess I'll just have to wait... Maybe you can get decipher to let you write it? With the promised conversion system we should be equally able to use it, whatever system any of us end up using...

Oh, if Decipher (read: Christian, head of the RPG division ) decides it wants a Gamma Quadrant Sourcebook, such as the one LUG had planned long ago, I'd be glad to work on it. But I expect that'd be fairly far down the list of priorities, as things go.

The big dominion ship the Valiant went up against was suppusedly a protype battleship. ie built during the war.

That would be logical for the Dominion to develop new ships in the Alpha Quadrant as they certainly were breeding "Alpha" Jem'Hadar warriors specifically bred for battle in that Quadrant as we learned in "One Little Ship". Any newly designed ships from any of the powers in the Quadrant during the two year war would have seen a limited production run if at all (ie. what appeared to be only a handful of the huge Jem'Hadar battleships in a mass swarm of battlecruiser and attack ship classes protecting Cardassia Prime in the DS9 finale). The Prometheus is an example of a Starfleet prototype is this period. It is interesting also to note that by late 2373 at least two other, possibly three Defiant class ships (also considered experimental although this probably extends somewhat for the ill-fated NX-74205's cloaking technology due to the Romulan treaty that allowed only that ship to have a device) were made before the Dominion War as seen on "Call To Arms". At least one of these Defiant classes was the ill-fated USS Valiant NCC-74210 which got caught behind the lines as the war broke for eight months. One assumes the original Defiant's replacement the ex-USS Sao Paulo was built during the war. Just before the war in the autumn(?) of 2373 we were introduced to the Akira, Steamrunner, Saber and Norway classes ala "First Contact" and every major battle sequence shown on DS9 since "Call To Arms" somewhat "prophetic" (excuse pun) perhaps to Sisko statements when the Defiant was first assigned to DS9 (The Search: Part I) that Starfleet had plans for a new (prototype if you will) "battle fleet" designed to battle the Borg. Apart from the second Borg attack of 2373 numerous ship classes that were designed result of the Starfleet plans for a new fleet would instead be fighting the Dominion.

    Cool

There was acarrier in the (unreleased) Red Alert! Dominion War expansion. A fan made counter with a glorious picture can be found here at the Yahoo groups Red Alert site (the groups are currently down, so no link sorry).
I'm not sure where he got the picture from, I don't think it was ever seen in the series.
