Okay I think we are moving off topic a bit?
Moderator?
I would put it at Jupiter though, as I like the idea of everything in the Sol sector...because that's in keeping with the rest of the Star Trek mentality.

This is a cool idea if your running a Fighter Squadron Game. When i Get the time i'm going to make a Space dock version of the USS Hornet, A Movie Era Strike Carrier patoling the Orion Sector. She has 10 or 12 figters remnisent of a "B"-wing fighter that dock to the outside of the ship.
Picked up the blueprints for it at a con many years ago, I think sketches of it are floating around on the Net. Starship schematics used to have one one there site.

Thought it owuld work for an Akira as well
Certainly though it was more a background thing for Kell Perim, the NPC flight deck officer now 2nd helm. She was a "Top Gun" and recently was awarded the "Tycho Alley Ace" award for her actions in a recent adventure.
And Tycho Alley is what? A reactor Vent?
Something one of my players came up with, I guess the idea is that it is a course (like the one from the Voyager shuttle race episode) that has a series of impediments, objectives and drones that must be completed in a certain amount of time and with a certain amount of acuracy
If you pull it off you become a Tycho Alley Ace
Normally on Top Guns were allowed to challenge for the Ace award, but since the Dominion War, at least 1 Klinon Fighter Jock has earned the award.
Odds are anyone who can win the Ace would be invited to train at Miramar Station
Just had this discussion with some of my pals.
If you had a Betazoid empath who's a pilot wouldn't he have a tactical advantage in a dogfight as he would be able to sense the emotions of the enemy pilots which would give him the edge as he could "feel" when the enemy would try a particular manuvere. Of course if he was a precog...well...a couple of seconds in the future shouldn't be too difficult...
Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden!
Fell deed awake: fire and slaughter!
Spear shall be shaken, shields be splintered,
a sword-day, a red-day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!

Yes, I suppose so.Originally posted by ghosty

Though I imagine given how intense the emotioins of all those around them are (both sides) it may be hard to get a lead on one particular pilot.
It might take a truely spectacular roll.
I tend to agree here. This isn't a *regular* training part of Starfleet (which is why I figure the rest of the stuff is handled in the Sol System), but an advanced area - moving them elsewhere adds to the prestige of the training, as well as making sense from a "Starfleet is the entirety of the Federation, not just earth" point of view, and would be more challenging. They do advanced survival training on Andoria, after all.Originally posted by Lancer
Why do Starfleet facilities tend to be located in the Sol system? Okay, SFHQ is on Earth, but if you are looking for some interesting stellar phenomena to race a fighter around our solar system is downright boring.
Plus, with the Academy flight range at Jupiter (or was it Saturn?) nearly every Starfleet pilot allready knows the setting and some of it's challenges from his basic training.
At least move your flight school out to Alpha Centauri: Twin suns, an M-class planet with rings and more asteroids, gas giants and moons than you can shake a stick at (if you go with Planets of the UFP ).
Or even better, make up a system inside a nebula. Lot's of "Where is he, can you see him" scenes a la ST:WoK.

Drunken DM and the Speak with Dead spell: "No, I'm not the limed-over skeleton of the abbot, and no this special key in my boney fingers does not open the door to the secret treasury! ... Oh crap."
Nice work!
I may just have to swipe these
Thanks for the kind words, Perrryyy. Swipe away!

Here's a Flight control officers training package. It appears in the "Tactical" section, but it's 11 points. Below is a roundabout 8 point tweak
Shipboard Systems (Conn) 1(2)
Space Sciences (Stellar Cartography) 1(2)
Vehicle Operations (Shuttlecraft) 1(2)
Alertness +2
Bold +1
Impulsive -1
Rival -1
Shady Background -2
3D Spatial sense +2
Argumentative -1 (Captain!! I really think we oughta go *this* way)
FIPA First Contact Specialist for Atypical Life Forms
This is a package for those psionic individuals gifted with a high adaptablility with their psionic skills. People with such high psionic capabilities are often the only individuals capable of making contact with some atypical life forms (think "Tin Man").
FIPA First Contact Specialist for Atypical Life Forms : If the trainee has receptive psionic abilities, then one of: Receptive Empathy 1 -OR- Receptive Telepathy 1. If the trainee has projective psionic abilities, then one of: Projective Telepathy 1 -OR- Mind Meld 1. Only one of those four skills is learned, in other words. Life Sciences (Exobiology) 1 (2). Cultural Flexibility +1. Focus Edge +1 -OR- Empathy Edge +1.
