The Attack Shuttlepod was designed to pack as much extra firepower as possible into as small a package as possible. It picked up the nickname from the hourglass shaped aft phaser emitter, and its likely life expectancy in combat. It was on the drawing boards of the Eghar Yards for quite a while, but even the Andorian Defense Forces saw little need for it prior to the Dominion War. After a rapid development (prototypes having been tested before) In ADF service, it’s known as the “Varchuk” after a traditional Andorian hand weapon. (Basically 2 stilettos connected with a length of chain.) There’s some talk of making a more advanced version with an Annular Confinement Beam tailgun array, but it’s doubtful that it would be very cost effective on such an attrition unit. Crew consists of a Pilot, Weapons Operator, and a Flight Engineer/Tailgunner.

Finally, someone designs a size 1 ship! It the next-gen killer bee! I could use a ship like this on my fast frigate design (small shuttlebay). A couple of comments:
    1. How do you cram 20 photon torpedoes into a 5m x 4m x 2m hull? This shuttle must have mighty big weapon pods. May I suggest an alternate armament scheme? Try dorsal and ventral mounted multi-shot Type V pulse phasers, twin microtorp launchers and high yield single shot torp launchers (prepped before launch) Same punch, less room.
    2. While you're at it, I suggest embedding the warp nacelles. (Yeah, I know about the minimum size requirements for embedding warp naceles, but this ship needs all the help it can get.)

Well, the dimensions listed to the ship size are just suggestions. Imagine if I'd added 1 SU of cargo space to the design...33,000 cubic meters in a 40 cubic meter fighter... Must have had a Gallifreyan on the design team. As abstract as the ship design rules are, you're gonna have Murphy's like this show up. It's propably bigger than 5m by 4m by 2m, but it's still small enough to qualify as size 1. I kinda picture it in my head as being shaped like a cropped Iscolese(sp)triangle, with a lifting body underhull, nacelles at the "wingtips", and the top fairly flat, with kind of a spike like centerline. The nacelles block the "tailgun" from shooting to the sides, resulting in the hourglass shaped array. Impulse engines take up most of the "wings"... I may have to sketch it out & borrow my girlfriend's scanner. Anyhoo, the point I was eventually heading towards is that the sharply wedged shape makes it so that you can fit two of them into the space normally taken up by a regular shuttle. While not variable geometry, we could have the wings even fold for storage in the hanger.
