    Cool

    1) What ship we use?
    > Up until recently the campaign vessel was the USS Atlantic, a Galaxy Class. She served for over 5 years. When she kicked the bucket -quite heroically- saving the party's bacon in a space battle against Breen- and renegade Klingon warships, we were assigned (after an obligatory court-martial for the captain; hey, a ship WAS destroyed on her watch)to the USS Phoenix Reborn, a Sovereign Class vessel straight out of San Francisco Orbital Spacedock.

    2)Who picked it?
    > The USS Atlantic was a holdover from a previous campaign years ago, at the time the decision was shared by the then-gamemaster and the captain-player. The USS Phoenix Reborn was thought up by the gamemaster who ran the game in which the Atlantic was destroyed. His main reason for picking a Sovereign Class is that it's simply a mega-cool starship, and that the player group had deserved a reward after a tough game.

    3) What are the enemy vessels we most often encounter?
    > In reverse chronological order:

    - Vor'cha and K'Vort Classes (those renegade Klingon forces);
    - Breen whatchamacallits;
    - Jem'Hadar ships [various];
    - Borg scout craft;
    - Sheliak vessels;
    - Species 8472 bioships. Relax, we didn't beat THOSE, we made with the parley-stuff ;-);
    - D'Deridex Class Romulan Warbirds (quite popular as Threat ships, from the looks of this thread!);
    - Borg Cube(s);
    - Legaran "Praying Mantis" Class battlecruisers (invented by GM)

    1. a. i. The USS Challenger is, as most know the prototype of the upgrade for the future Enterprise in "All Good Things...", a modified Galaxy-class.
    ii. The USS Preye is a standard Galaxy-class.
    iii. The USS Chronos is an Apollo-class.
    iv. The USS Vo'kavra is a Sabre-class.
    v. The USS Trailblazer, a Deep Space Surveyor of my own design though a buddy is creating the deck plans.

    b. I have picked all the designs though an upcoming mini-campaign will be heavily influenced by players' desires.
    c. In the case of the Preye and Challenger, they fit the needs of the campaign and had the benefit of having deck plans. Both of these campaigns will eventually resume. The Chronos and the Vo'kavra games also fit for what the campaign needed as the series had a far more limited scope. The Trailblazer is being designed for a campaign to explore a sector in depth. I wanted a smaller ship for a more personal feel but one that could independently operate for great lengths of time without support. The Intrepid was a bit too powerful and the Nova-class was way too weak. The ship was built using Spacedock.

    2. i. Challenger campaign has faced pretty well everything there is to face including some home designs. Most prominently, it has faced Dominion and allied ships as the campaign started at the beginning of the war, a couple of Borg Spheres, and for most of the campaign various Romulan and Taurhai ships. The campaign will be entering a new phase this summer.
    ii. The Preye faced a number of Gorn defense cruisers, a couple of Romulan Warbirds, a pirate vessel and a Doomsday Machine. It was a three-episode game that is in consideration of being expanded.
    iii. The Chronos dealt with pirates and a couple Cardassian vessels.
    iv. The Vo'kavra dealt with all home-brewed ships though most of the time it was Kzinti.
    v. The Trailblazer has yet to face any as that game is still in the design process.

    I used those ships as they were what was needed for the focus of the campaign.

    I plan to eventually run a Romulan game but that is a few months off. I am certainly looking forward to the Romulan SRV.

    Regards,
    CKV.

    1. a. What ship(s) do the PCs in your series use?

    We used four so far over our seasons:
    USS Discovery NCC-62049, Nebula class
    USS Vanguard NCC-48237, Ambassador class
    USS Vanguard NCC-48237-A, Galaxy class
    USS Ascendant NX-76620, Prototype.

    b. Did they pick it, or did the Narrator?

    The first three I chose as Narrator, the last reflects a wish expressed by the players to have their own ship.

    c. In either case, why that ship? What features about it make it so appealing and/or useful?

    The Nebula I went with because it was the starting ship in the TNG corebook...
    The Ambassador I liked because it looked cool, had a nice history and was big although not overpowered.
    When it was destroyed, the Galaxy seemed a logical evolution.
    The Ascendant is much smaller but has some unique features (like the holographic intelligence), a reduced crew and has powerful tactical arrays, all of which appealed to my players.

    2. What ships frequently appear in your series as adversaries? If you're the Narrator, why do you use those particular ships?

    It really depends.
    In our first story arc (seasons 1-4) I used decommissioned Starfleet ships because the opponent was an organization infiltrating Starfleet.
    Now, they're facing a multifaceted threat in the form of drug smuggling; so I'm using more cargo designs, like Orion, but also Kzinti raiders, self-made.

    1.a. our game will start soon, and it's on the 1701-B
    b. I, the Narrator, chose it, with nods of approval from the players-to-be
    c. because I love the Excelsior-class design for it's great lines, and I bought the Playmates 1701-B back when and so it will make a great prop to set in the middle of the table, and because it's my first ST game and I want to make it feel 101% Trek, so why not play on the Enterprise?

    2. Not sure what ships they'll be up against frequently, but probably Romulan and Cardassian.

    They'll probably interact with Oberths and Mirandas on a regular basis.

    The long-running campaign is set on a Galaxy -- mostly because everyone knows what the sets look like, have an idea of what the thing can do, and because I wanted the 'town in space' feel that would allow any kind of character and mission.

    The new campaign is two different groups that never will meet, but have an effect on each other -- a self-made merchant vessel based loosely on some of the initial designs for the Defiant, and a Starfleet diplomatic/intelligence group based on an Akira -- because it's the state of the art, shiny, ass-kickin' ship. Just the thing for the Romulan border.

    Oh, I just wanted to pass on kudos from a bunch of Hero System fans I met in the LGS the other day. They say, "Great job, Steve!"
    "War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

    Well they have had other ships, but the most recent crew went this way.

    1.
    a; Started with the USS Ranger. Ranger class heavy scout redesign for the TNG, post DW period. Moved up to the USS Wanderer, Steamrunner class and will now move on to the USS Proxima, Excelsior-B class.(All sigh as they think how wonderful the actual deck plans of an excelsior would be instead of just the cutaway. )

    b;I are narrator, so I pick the ships. Only occaisionally would Starfleet ever allow a skipper to choose his ship. Though a potential skipper can turn down commands till he gets what he wants. Good bloody luck, turn the big chair down enough and they stop offering.

    c; I always loved the Ranger class from the Movie era FASA stuff. The Wanderer had been a PC ship from a previous group and I thought it would be nice for the new characters to chat about old characters exploits. The Proxima....I pulled it outta the hat.

    2. That's always a toss up. I really try not to use canon vessels so that my players are never quite able to guess what I am up to. But I use alot of Cardassian ships and pirate vessels that are fairly stock to represent a modified basic craft. The big enemies use vessels that the PCs would be wise to run from usually, since a single ship won't do the job....unless I want it to.
    Like anyone is actually reading this.

    Captain Taggert, the Ranger redesign that you used is that one of your own or the one from this site?

    The campaign is a station based little series, but the players are assigned the following

    1 Defiant class Heavy escort (U.S.S. Herod Aggripa) (Station security)

    2 Talon Class Scouts (Goshawk, Raptor) (the system so so full of radioactive garbage that the Talons are needed to set up nav bouys).

    This was decided by the GM for a) makes getting the players from place to place easier than putting an entire starship into situations for which it's not really nessesary. b) sometimes the players are sent off on operations that are 'questionable' and loose lips sink ships, Gentlemen.

    As to adversaries, it tends to vary from Romulan ships or various classes, to privateers/pirates, the occasional fruitbat dictatorship on the border area, as well as the occasional Ancient device.

    But to offset this, the players can call upon Allied vessels to make sure things don't get too ugly.

    BC, is the Agrippa named after the renaissance fencing master?

    My TNG/DS9 game is on the USS Yorktown, a Galaxy Class

    TOS Movie is on the USS Hornet, Carrier as can be seen on Starshipschematics.com, its the one with the fighter's on the outside of the ship

    I picked these ships due to coolnes and deck plan availability

    Actually, the name was in referrence to King Herod of Persia who invaded Greece.

    Theyre on an Oberth in the timeframe of ST:Insurrection. i picked it because i wanted them to feel very unimportant and powerless in the beginning.

    The oberth is small enough to be managable.

    As adversaries, Cardassians. So far, two Galor class ships. It was a good way to keep them from trying to fight out of the first episode.

    1) a. USS Fortitude NX-80000 It looks like an Akira, but the two pylons coming out of the saucer have had their length shortened so that the impulse engine is over the aft of the saucer and the nacelles are under it, giving it a rather Miranda-ish profile.
    b. Narrator chosen using a Size 6 and some of the new tech found in the thread by the same name.
    c. It has to do with a revisit (since I'm in a new location and have new players) of the Sto-vo-gnan.

    2) Brel, Vorcha, K'vort, Galor, Ferengi Marauder, and three new threat races with ship classes that translate loosely as, Scorpion, Web-Closer, Winged Passion (an insectoid race; a manipulative political race; and a psionically gifted race with the spelljamer like ships respectively).

    a. Upgraded Orion Wanderer Class Blockade Runner
    b. They picked it
    c. They liked the design and fell. It’s a versatile Pirate/Merchant Ship, so just perfect for our Pirate Campaign.

    2.
    Starfleet, Various local Defence Forces (Cardassians, Bajorans, Talarians…) Merchants, Pirates.

    Well, they are what a Pirate is likely to encounter.
