First, let me say that there must be two different sizes, because in ST III the Constitution Class fit through the doors (at 141m wide), but a ship much wider would not. In TNG, however, the Galaxy Class Enterprise fit through those doors, and its 560m wide.

So, I get out my trusty ruler and the copy of ST:The Magazine with a good picture of Spacedock.
It shows the smaller one, as a Constitution Class vessel is in the doorway.
Said ship is exactly 10mm across the saucer, so our scale is 10mm=140m or so. Ignoring the antennae at both ends, the top of the highest dome to the bottom of the station proper is .... 303mm which scales out to 4242m.
The larger one would be ... larger. I'd say at least 4 times as big, which would be 16,968m.
That's issue #9 if you want the pic.

In a game I ran with a Spacedock, I had transporter stations (t-ports) to suppliment the turbolifts, which typically ran only 20 decks in range.

The one that E-D flys through is SB 74 from '11001001'.

So unless I've missed a ep where E-D goes through a big SB door at Earth

Then people are mixing things up.

    No not the book.

The actual station in both Star Trek III and various TNG episodes.

I am really curious to it's dimensions.

Yeah but that one is obviously the same class as Spacedock at Earth by this point right, therefore the station must be huge.

Actually this has always been one of my complaints about Next Gen. Why would they just make the same Space Station only 4 times as big? Seems silly to me...did they just shoot it with the Enlarge-O-Ray (tm)?

Don't worry about it, Ive got it when it was in print, I even have the FASA ship construction rules as well though thats a bit dog-eared by now

The ST III book gives stats for the refitted Enterprise, USS Reliant, USS Grissom a Bird of Pray and stats for Spacedock and Regiula 1 research lab. It also includes updated stats for the main crew. It any of u want any of these stats just whistle.

Those Regula One stats might be nice .....

In return, I offer ship stats from FASA's Ship Recognition Manual (Federation).

    Consider the time difference though.

    ST III c. 2284
    '11001001' c. 2364

Sure its the same model, just a upgraded class.

Maybe they buit a large one at Earth to? Not that we've seen SpaceDock since the movies.

Given that we've seen Spacedock-style space stations large enough to handle the Galaxy class in episodes, it seems unlikely to me that Starfleet would leave the first, namesake, such station -- the one orbiting Earth! -- so small that it couldn't accomodate many of the 2360s-era ships. Instead, they'd get rid of the small one and build one to the newer, larger scale; or gradually upgrade and expand the original.

Given the availability of large industrial replicators, it doesn't seem to me like it would be that difficult to create a newer, bigger Spacedock. Leaving the station around Earth too small to be of significant use wouldn't do anyone any good (unless perhaps Starfleet kept it for use as a museum or backup facility).

    I'm in full agreement

80 odd years is plenty of time to build/upgrade to a new large style station.
