That Damn Fish vs. The Giant Space Frog...

First let me say...I DID NOT DESIGN THIS ABOMANATION. But my wife is making me do this because she is a frog finatic...

    Phoenix...

    AMPLUS CAELUM LEPIDOBATRACHUS LAEVIS
    (GIANT SPACE BUDGETTS FROG)
aka. ‘That Friggin’ Frog’, aka ‘Umm, Sir, there’s something chewing on our port nacelle..?!?’
Type: Giant space amphibian; Pouncing Hunter
    Size: 400x400x250m, 3,000,000 metric tons
    Form: Giant Bloated Ugly Frog
    Attributes: Fitness 3; Coordination 4; Presence 1, Willpower +2; Instinct 1, Ferocity +2, Perception +2
Skills: Athletics: Flight 3(4); Dodge 3; Energy Weapon: Plasma Belch 1(3); Hunting: Space 1(5); Search 3; Stealth: Stealthy Movement 3(4); Unarmed Combat: Bite 3(4)
Special Abilities and Weapons: See below
    Description: Giant Bloated Ugly Frog

Origins: Experts suspect either the creature is native to some gas giant or nebula from an unexplored region in the Alpha Quadrant, a mutation, or a creation of a Q-like being to annoy people. Starfleet first became aware of this creature’s existence during the Dominion Wars, when the large number of moving targets attracted the species’ attention.

Additional Notes: Pretty much, is a really stupid, stubborn, critter. It lies cloaked in ambush, and then tries to swallow or gnaw on any ship that passes by. It doesn’t have much of a sense of scale- it’ll try to eat ANYTHING (a spacestation would be a target, but doesn’t move around enough to get the frog’s attention at all). If it has too many difficulties with trying to eat it’s prey, it will flee (after much damage received), using its belch as a deterrent to pursuing vessels before it goes to warp. All in all, it’s a fairly forthright combatant.
The main offensive strategy it has would be the ‘Passive Lure Strategy’, described on p. 104 of the Spacedock Construction Manual (use Stealth: Stealthy Movement for the opposed test). Almost any defensive strategy is acceptable.
In regards to Skill Tests performed in combat, use the following substitutions:
    Asks for Shipboard Systems:=Replace with:
: Cloaking Device=Stealth: Stealthy Movement OR Stealth: Hide
: Flight Control=Athletics, Dodge, OR Unarmed Combat
    : Impulse=Athletics: Flying
: Sensors (To Find)=Perception OR Search
: Sensors (To Hide)=Stealth: Stealthy Movement OR Stealth: Hide
    : Tactical/Weapons=Energy Weapon
There is no use of command (no one to command) or tactics (it ain’t that bright).

The systems are natural abilities represented in spacedock terms (aka brain for computers and bridge, heart for power systems, ‘lungs’ for life support, digestive system for warp core/cargo hold, etc.) for simplicity.

    To finish up...

Don, I'm sorry for the double post here, I had no idea there was a max message size. This part is my idea, yes it got silly- blame it on thin air.

    Phoenix...

For those stupid enough to attempt boarding actions (or Exploration of the Interior), we provide the following. For what the interior appears like, look to any number of medical reference websites or books.

SECURITY PERSONNEL: White blood cells ("Ok sir, we’re beaming over now." Pauses. "OH MY GOD! BEAM US BACK! BEAM US BACK!")
    Type: Filter/Pouncing Hunter
    Size: app. 3m, 300kg
    Form: Amorphous Blob
    Attributes: Fitness 3, Strength +2, Vitality +2; Coordination 2; Presence 4, Empathy -4, Willpower +4; Instinct 1, Ferocity +2, Perception +2
Skills: First Aid: Wound/Combat Trauma 1(2), Life Science: Microbiology 1(2), Medical Sciences: Pathology, Toxicology 2(4)(4), Search 3, Security: Patrolling 2(5), Unarmed Combat: Engulf 1(3)
Advantages: Enhanced Chemoreception +1, Ignore Pain +4, Synergy +3
    Attacks
Engulf: Difficulty 6, Damage 5/rnd. Character can escape by winning an opposed test of Fitness + Strength (may substitute Coordination + Dexterity) or by doing enough damage to kill the cell.
Poison: Difficulty Automatic, Damage 2d6. Poison damage is automatic after engulfing, and is in addition to that damage.
    Base Movement: 15/35

Notes: While far from intelligent or impressionable, they are very aggressive- even attacking other cells
which have ‘captured’ an intruder. To a person armed with an energy weapon these might not seem like much of a challenge, but Narrators are reminded that there are an endless supply of them. They are also used for damage control purposes, but instead of actually rolling their first aid and sciences, I think it safe to assume that they would be the ‘how’ behind the regeneration.

Rockbiter: This is, for any interested, based on Rockbiter, my Budgett Frog. I assumed most of the species to be more intelligent than him (but not much I’m sure). He was old when I got him, and had bad cataracts. His name was given due to his habit of viciously attacking and devouring the gravel at the bottom of the aquarium. To give an idea as to his ‘hunting’ he would usually let the turtle chase the fish over to him. He was extremely aggressive also, on one occasion attempting to swallow the turtle despite it being twice his size. He managed to get the front half into his mouth and would not let go (THIS explains the tractor beam) until we literally pulled them apart. It’s a small wonder why the turtle had psychological issues after this. His death occurred after a period of .. well.. THIA: Hun, is he dead? PHOENIX (Looking at Frog.): I can’t tell. Try putting him in the water. (Thia does so. Frog floats sideways.) Yep, he’s dead.

At first, I thought: "Oh no, a That Damn Fish ripoff". But the Frog is great! It stands on itself. The combination between creature stats and starship stats, the translation from Shipboard Systems management to animal actions, the white cells... It was great. Five stars for you, Phoenix.
