Hmmm, I've made a few ships via SD. ala the 'Southern Seas Class'.

Next time I'm chatting to ya, bring it up and I'll help ya out.

OK, thinking about this over lunch (when I got to go home and fish out my copy of SD).

Ship should be Size 16. This allows between 7000 and 11,000 SU. I'd stick to a lower limit of 8000 or so as more than that rivals a Borg Cube!

At that size, basic systems will be costing around 50SU on average.

As for the ablative armour issue, let's go with a maximum of 300 points per Size category. This lets the Defiant keep her posted stats of 1500 points, and limits shuttle-sized ships to 600 points (still enough for that Widowmaker-Class assault shuttle someone was doing, I think!). With that, a Size 16 vessel could have up to 4800 points of ablative armour. That's a tough ship, but let's not forget Borg Cubes could be similarly outfitted... The SU cost (960 SUs) is also not inexpensive, so few ships will want this level of armour.

I don't need a spreadsheet. I find it far easier to work out stats on rough paper with a pencil (low-tech I know but I don't have to worry about power cuts or the hard disk crashing... ) and a calculator. Just send me some basic info on the ship (the warp speed, impulse speed and # of engines, number, type and placement of weapons, rough number of computers and transporters, etc) and I'll see what I can knock up. I assume the Gambler has bioneural computers? Are the shields tougher than those on a Rommie Warbird? How much so? All good questions you should ask when designing ships.

The science systems I think should be Rating 3. This puts them in the same league as an Explorer like a Galaxy-Class, but far better than typical for an escort.

BTW, what the heck kind of ship needs a 5.5km-long escort??!! A Death Star? There could be an even bigger Feddie ship waiting in the wings...

However, saying that ships this big "aren't Trek" is a touch daft considering we have some canon examples. OK, the Borg don't really count as their ship tech is more advanced, but the Krenim aren't [i]that[i] much more developed as a race than the Feds (they just focussed more on time-tech) and the Temporal Weaponship was huge! And don't forget Balok's ship from "The Corbomite Maneuver" OR the Planet Killer...

Do you still need this conversion or has someone else done it?

5km Long and only 750 crew?

Thats silly, how far apart are those workstations. You could probaly go for nearly 10-20 minutes on this mamoth without seeing another member of the crew...

Of course my hoursemate stuart adds that all the extra space is needed for the Baroque artwork.

    Hmmm...

To bad you removed the Oberth from the shuttlebay inventory

But you didn't remove my multi-spectral not-Brooke Shields comment...

'Captain' Cadet: "Ensign Rookie, launch the ablative Mirandas, standard defense pattern."
'Ensign' Rookie: "Yes sir! Ablative Mirandas moving into place."
'Commander' Newbie: "It's not working! We should hide in that asteroid field!"
'Captain' Cadet: "Agreed. Ensign, set course for that Asteroid field!"
'Lieutenant' Green: "Captain, that could be dangerous! This is a big ship..."
'Commander' Newbie: "When we want your opinion lieutenant, we will ask for it."

    (Cut to exterior view)
We see several Ablative Mirandas(TM) crash into the asteriods.
The Dice's Phaser Turrets are shooting non-stop trying to destroy the incoming rocks, but to no avail. More and more asteroids hit the USS Dice.

(Back on the bridge, panels are exploding and cadets are frying)
'Commander' Newbie: "I want my mommie!!"
'Lieutenant' Green: "I told you this was dangerous!"
    'Captain' Cadet: "Shut up!"
'Ensign' Deadman: "Captain, structural integrity is f..."
(Bright flash and 'ensign' Deadman is no more)
    'Commander Newbie: "Whaaaaa!"
'Ensign' Rookie: " This is not good..."

    (Cut to exterior view)
As we zoom out, several Ablative Mirandas(TM) crash into the USS Dice, and after a few moments, a warp core breach occurs. So much for training excercises.

Just a matter of Opinion really but isn't the Gambler's Warp speed to high?

I am basing this comment of Seven's observation that the Kermin Temporal Incursion ship could not exceed Warp 6.

Someone else made the comment (I apologise, I forget your name) that, except in Temporal Science, the Kremin was roughly technolocially equal to the Federation.

Now I realise that there are no pubblished limits, but surely common sense would say "Hold on a minute..."

    Just my opinion of course.

    Question

Hay Stryo, meaning no disrespect to you or your crew! Have you guys ever considered trading in the Star-Destroyer ( ) for something a little more traditional (meaning pre-ST:First Contact ).

Redwood, the fun in this is having all that firepower and not being allowed to use it.

Especially if you have a GM who keeps bombarding you with giant space-born lifeforms and ancient, powerful aliens
