Modular Construction

The Danube-class runabout comes with a host of reconfigurable modules. I was thinking has anyone thought of building a starship like that. I don't mean like the Nebula where you just switch the upper pod for different functions I mean a full modular system where whole systems can be ripped out and replaced quickly. The idea comes from a storyline I wrote involving an experimental testbed starship fielded by the ASDB...its completely mission configurable so that newly developed systems can be installed for testing on just one spaceframe saving both work and costs.

Somewhere here in SD there is a descusion on that same topic, but it died out rapidly. I think it was titled "Omni-ships" of something like that.
