    LOTR RPG Discussion Board

For those interested, Decipher has established a message board for the forthcoming LORD OF THE RINGS Roleplaying Game. It is at:

    http://calder.decipher.com/cgi-bin/msgbd?lotr-rpg

You have to register to use the boards, but that's a quick and easy process.

They also have a Trek RPG message board, though it's kind of quiet at present.

    Arrow Well, it's about time!

They finally separated the roleplayers from the cardgamers. Yeah, I'll be there. Still hoping they changed their board format though.

What, no LOTR area over here? As for Trek, Don has said he'd rather people post here than Decipher. I let my Decipher account run out, and I don't know whether I'll ever reregister.

I registered over at the LOTR board about 2-3 hours ago. How long does it take for the passwords to be e-mailed to you?

    Unhappy

It took me over 24 hours before I got my password and confirmation.

That's why I only make weekly visits there. Their threaded forums is so 90's (i.e., antiquated).

Thumbs up Board is growing... *BUMP*

Just want to let you all know, that the LOTR RPG board is growing, mainly Q&A sessions, in which Steve Long is happily answering our questions.

Wish I could say the same for the Star Trek RPG board though. Perhaps Steve Long can persuade one of his associates or devote some of his time answering questions there.

Ok....I signed up for the Decipher boards, and got my password quickly (within a couple of minutes), but I must say that the board system...well, it isn't the best I've ever seen, and certainly can't compare to the boards that we have access to here!

Cheers to you Don, for the superior boards!

Having said that, until Don can start a forum for us to discuss the new system from Decipher, why don't we simply start a thread or two in the General Chat area to discuss the game. Then, when Don does create the new forum (no rush, Don!) he could probably just transfer the threads there.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about it (the new system, that is), but I know a fair amount about the texts, and have all of the major Middle-earth writings (including the History of Middle-earth, which has been a bear to get without ordering), and I'm fairly familiar with the old Rolemaster (no Rulesmonster jokes, please!) system, so I don't think I'd be too far out of touch with what's going on with the new system.

So, the basic idea here is...what does everyone else think about this idea?

well, it isn't the best I've ever seen,
Yes, I know. Hence my suggestion in the first post here (see above, last sentence).

The threaded discussion board is reminiscent of the 1990's web-based board spawned from the USENET format. It is a contrast to the graphic-intensive ("flashy") web site that Decipher puts out. Maybe because the graphic-intensive web pages takes too much space on their server.

Nevertheless, at least there is a discussion going on, and Steve Long is willing to answer your questions. So let's be thankful for that.
