I wouldn't call what he did spaming the boards, a little over zealous...Yes. He's simply a fan who is upset, like I am, about the cancellation of one of the very few good sci-fi shows on TV at the moment and he wanted to get the word out about possible ways to try and stop it. I mean what would happen if Ent got cancelled (I can only dream)...There would be a lot of Trek fans doing the exact same thing, in exactly the same way.

He agreed that he went overboard, and requested that his post on the other forums be taken off. I'm sorry but I think all that was called for was exactly that, I am not trying to be argumenative, negative or cruel here, the above quote was totally unnecessary.

Arrow IN MY NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION...

We don't even need this thread in this General Chat forum. We already have one thread ongoing.
    Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

But there can be multiple war and anti-war threads all over the place, but only *one* thread on Farscape? oy. This is why this forum is less and less the place I go to read up on Trek and Sci-fi related topics. No offense guys but this is really getting sad.

And though I agree and that person was a bit overboard in posting, to call a petition to keep a sci-fi show on the air "spam" is honestly just strange. I find most of the non sci-fi related topics on this forum to be "spam" and even started a thread on the subject -- and was roasted for the effort. Farscape=sci-fi, war topics, eh, I can find more enlightening comments in the op-ed section of my newpaper or the FOX channel. And yes, yes I understand that I can just "not read" the many, many non-sci fi topics, honestly it would be nice to have a filter available like on a news reader -- I know the rpg.net people are trying this (with degrees of success and failure...), but it's gotten downright odd when a sci-fi related topic is attacked as spam or that only one thread is necessary to discuess it.

I use to read through this site twice a day, now I find myself here perhaps twice a month. No point pining for the good old days though as they're clearly gone. Perhaps if Decipher published more material....there would be more Trek and sci-fi related topics....oh well.

Sad is this thread and your berating me. They were in other forums. Good grief, give me a break.

So it's okay to have a "Save Farscape" thread in the Coda and Mechanics forums? Those are the threads I deleted. I could care less how many Farscape threads are in the General Forum.

    My point is:
    1) He registered solely to post this thread (and multiple others).
    2) He has an agenda and came here (to TrekRPGNet) simply to garner support for his cause. He (probably) won't be back in the future.

So by this line of thinking I should allow people to register and make multiple posts on each of our forums on "save gun control," or "save the whales?"

This isn't about Farscape and it isn't about the poster (Bob). It's about removing spam and putting the material where it belongs. I will point out that this thread is still open (for the moment). Go save Farscape! (Edit: Prior to the split.)

Oh no! You're visiting this free site less and less! Oh no, whatever shall I do!?!

Yes, Decipher should print more material. You should drop them a line and tell them that. Clearly that's my responsibility.

    *Ouch*.

    Chill out folks.

The original poster was too quick off the mark and apologised for that. Issue over. Trying to turn this into some sort of rant against Don and people's opinions as to what sort of topics are permissable in the general forum is a waste of time. As has already been discussed todeath, the general forum is for general topics. You don't have to visit it. If all you want is RPG and sci fi, just visit those forums.

As for the comment that we don't need more than one Farscape thread, I would disagree. As already mentioned, if we can have so many threads dedicated to the whole war on Iraq debate, two Farscape threads are hardly over the top.

I've said it before and will say it again. No one is making anyone read these threads. The bigger a community gets, the more threads you're gonna have to scroll through. It's not the fault of the community that it's popular, but it is a fact of life.

Well, a "save the whales" thread is not that irrelevant in a Star Trek forum, is it ?

    Thing is Don...

The way I read the comments about multiple Farascape threads, they felt more directed at REG than at you. Where REG made a point about the other Farscape Cancelled thread in General Chat... Rather than at yourself.

I missed the early cross border posts... So clearly missed much Moderator fun.

You most certianly are not a mean man, Don!

Multiple postings of the same thing in every section of a messageboard is spamming and annoying. Posting once in the correct area is enough to get your point across, and I am glad to see the original poster own up to his zealousness and apologize.

With that said, multiple discussions on similar topics in the correct area is not spam, and I don't think that Don, Dan or any of the other moderators on here are trying to keep things down to "one size fits all" threads. They're doing a fine job of that.

What makes this messageboard great is the very presence of people from around the world, with different perspectives and opinions. That makes the Trek, Sci Fi and General discussions more lively, interesting and intelligent. Sure this means that most of us will have to wander through and read only the threads that interest us, but the very presence of the threads we pass over is testiment to the fact that this board attracts a diverse audience.

As for saving the whales, I'm all for that.

    Y'know even I wouldn't be that sarcastic.

OK, pretty funny, but it is kind of mean Don.

Ok I really don't know how all this silliness started! I did not in anyway say that Don is a mean person in my post. I was trying to point out that I thought he was over reacting to the Farscape post in the original thread. I mean the guy realized his mistake and asked to have the other posts removed, and that in my mind is where it should have stopped, comment was not necessary. And who's to say he wouldn't have posted again here, that is before everyone seemed to take "offense" at what he did. If I were him I probably wouldn't come back now. I hope he does, but after the warm welcome he got I doubt he will.

I do have to agree with a couple of the above posts as well, the Trek part of these borads is rapidly fading. 6 months ago there were Trek ideas flying around here left and center, now we have posts on whether the states should invade Iraq for pete's sake...If I wanted that I would go to a news group. This is TrekRPG.net not some strategic studies seminar. Can we try and bring this train a little closer to the tracks? Note I am not saying posts like the above aren't welcome, just why do we need so many of them?

BTW I know people will think I am complaining unnecessarily, but I don't appreciate my name being associated with a thread I didn't start.
