Have any of you run an old fashioned treasure hunt? If so, what was the scenario and how did it go with the players? What was the prize if it didn't involve the Ferengi?

Well, I'm not sure it's a treasure hunt, but...
I had a three-episode arc where the players had to collect three parts of a complete set of navigational data in order to find the location of a hidden alien weapon of massive power. The hunt was connected to the past of one of the players and the back history of her father who had disappeared when she was a child. It also involved Klingons and Romulans.
It was really fun.The player whom the story focused upon voted it her favorite episode.
