    Description and Notes:

    Like all Starbird-classes, the Vidian -class was commissionedas part of the Praetorian Edicts of 2348. The Vidian-class was one of the first Romulan attempts at a heavy explorer class ship, somewhat on par with the Federations Ambassador-class starship. The class incorporated several new innovations in starship design.

    All Romulan vessels are heavily armed, the Vidian-class is no exception. Its forward mounted Type K diruptor is capable of disabling all but the largest of adversaries, backed with the fire power of the Type J disruptor array and 2 Plasma Torpedo Launchers the Vidian has a better then average chance against even these enemies.

    The Type R-IV PDS is the same defensive system as that mounted on the massive D'deridex-class Warbird. So, even if the Vidians target survives the first salvo, the Vidian is quite capable of surviving the counter attack. Living to strike again, preferably from cloak.

    As the general idea of the design is exploration the Vidian-class mounts some of the most powerful sensors systems for a ship of its size. This allows the Vidian to easily detect resources, objects to study or pick out a target at a range of 17 light years.

    The Cloak Geometry is also equal to that of the D'deridex-class, allowing for Unobtrusive observation of a planet, or other such body, that might have inhabitants who have achieved such a level of technology allowing for space observation. The level of Cloak is also advantageous when it is necessary to strike a target with stealth.

    The small craft available is split fairly evenly between shuttlecraft, courier and in case of military operations...Assault craft.

    All-in-all a very efficient design.

    Hey hey... very nice. Compliments to the designer. I've been looking for something along these lines to harass my crew in light of some events they've been involved in (that whole Dominion War thing just about went the other way) and this is perfect. I have trouble designing anything other than a warship fer some reason... I love to play with big guns

    Hope you dun mind if I borrow it?

    Anyhoo, I also was wondering if you had an idea just how many weapons this bird actually had. I run Spacedock (Full Rules, no less) so such details are relevant to me. I can probably extrapolate my own figures, but when using other people's ships I like to make sure I'm keeping it in their original concept, right down to those pesky finer details.

    As to the Spacedock rules, I use a hybrid...or would if I had a full group to game with.

    I like the old ship templates from the old system and a few ideas (like str ratings for transporters, sec rating for computer and communications) from SD, and I like the combat system from SD. But those huge ship control sheets for SD...Don't like 'em...Way too much info.

    So I really don't have alot of experience in the design of SD ships, I might add this is the only reason why I haven't submitted my name for the SRM:Romulan Test read project. But, here is my two cents worth;

    Something like this I guess

    Say a total of 4 other lighter class of disruptor arrays location warp naucelle and wing tip postions. And two Plasma Launchers 1fv 1ad, not sure what type. I suppose you could extrapolate from the class XIV Launchers I have listed.

    I know its a little shaky, but as I have said I'm not all that good with SD design.

    If you do get something put together, post it here or on your own thread...Just because I don't use the system doesn't mean I don't like looking at a design of mine done another way.

    Yeah, when I saw the name I checked. The alien species suffering from the Phage is Vidiian. The ship is the Vidian-class.

    Okie then, I'll have some fun with this. I'll probably use the Sovreign as a weapons comparison since you described the ship as a "Heavy Explorer", though more heavily armed than a comperable sized Fed ship because those crazy Romulans love their plasma torps and disruptors (who doesn't... other than nosey feds and angry klingons).

    Will post when I get something done. Presumably I'll have it done before this weekend since my gaming session should be on Sunday... except fer thanksgiving... drat...

    Guess I'll jes post it here when done, since it is the same ship, no point in starting another thread over it. *Loads notepad and calculator and sits down for a looooong nite*

    On second thought... tomorrow night, I hate working while I'm sick maybe I'll feel better tomorrow (or remember to get suitably drunk before I get to feeling this bad). Nite all!!

    I just mixed and matched D'deridex and Vereleus parts to make a tough ship of the line.

    Sorry if this looks ugly, I did it in notepad over the last couple hours. Would've been done sooner but I had a weee bit too much cough medicine (they include those little ucps fer a reason). Also, I tried to look over it to make sur4e I'd removed my own notes, but I'm not sure I got them all... can't quite see straight.

    Okies then, the preceeding was my Spacedock conversion of the above ship by Phantom. She seems jes a bit under-armed to me (unless you count the plasma torps as counting fer more... they do an awful lot of damage...). Any comments or criticisms are welcomed. Where I wasn't sure what to put in I borrowed from the D'deridex or Sovreign (seemed to be similar mission profile to latter and as fer the former, its a Romulan ship, duh).

    Looks good. Since you seem to know the design process for SD if you think it needs a few more guns, then try out and see what happens.

    Also I was thinking, I'm going to look into adding the mods on my LUG design as well, that the computer should have a higher security rating...Romulans are more paranoid about the info kept in their computers then any other race.

    Just an idea I was going to look into.

    I talked the design over with one of my players. Its punch is actually comperable to a Sovreign simply because each disruptor can fire 5 times. I have a little trouble visualising firing arcs in 3D (or rather, I am right now - still on cold meds) so I'm not sure but I think a target will always be in at least one weapons firing arc, and thus can be shot repeatadly.

    Not going to add more weapons, ran out of SU

    As for computer security I don't find that needs to much tracking. That's a primarily software thing, and the hardware security is represented by the Security rating i gave the ship with guards being placed more liberally than on, say, a Federation starship. Thus its something hard to track during ship creation, its more like Romulan Star Navy OS 98 has some better security features just plain built in.

    Also, I was having some trouble getting a mental image of the ship when I was placing stuff. Mostly I just used the D'deridex as a reference for placing the various ship's systems that needed placement (i.e. weapons, computer cores, etc.). Again, I think that's a medicinal problem but it did slow my job down today.

    Anyhoos, I'll see what my crew thinks of the ship when they (hopefully) bump into it on Sunday. I'm sure they'll hate it
