    telepathic borg

    OK, heres an interesting thought. Styro and I werechatting on ICQ, and he sends me a message that says;

    "Telepathic Borg? Buuuuurrrrr...."

    I thought about it for a few seconds, and thought that this would actually be unlikely...

    My reasons;
    Why would the Borg wish to hear the thoughts of those outside of the collective? They a random, disorganised individual thoughts. If the Borg wish to hear the thoughts of an individual, assimilate it, and add the biological and technological distinctiveness to the collective.

    It also struck me that the Borg might also view telepathic/psi abilities as 'random mutations within the biological organism' and it may lead them to actually remove those particular brain areas to reduce the chances of deteriorations to the drones.

    Alternatively, it might be that it was a telepathic ability that allowed the unimatrix zero drones to communicate while regenerating??? In which case the Borg are likely to eradicate those species known for Telepathic abilities...

    What does anyone else think?

    Well, since Tuvok was assimilated, I think the teep drones just produce a neurosupressor or something like that.
    The darkness inside me is a lot scarier than the darkness out there....

    I'd be inclined to think that the Borg effectively nullify psionic powers through the central collective mind. Telepathic minds are suppressed, because their is so much noise. Maybe even, telepathic and empathic powers are nullified, because so many minds exist that it becomes irrlevant.

    Good topic overall

    Oh boy...The borg, the favorite subject of the God of Thunder....
    Well kids, lets think about this seriously. "you will be assimilated..your BIOLOGICAL and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own..."
    "We seek perfection..."
    To me it would seem that Telepathy was long ago assimilated and made part of the collective. It is most likely a facet of thier intercommunications.
    In Voyager they showed that Chacotay was able to "Link" with other borg, first that dingy broad that made the cooporative and then that cold fish seven of nine. It maybe technology, it may be biological. The borg don't seem to distinguish well between the two. All physical matter is used to acheive a goal, that goal being perfection.
    Picard heard the borg in First contact, and that seems to be a form of telepathy.
    In my game the borg are a single mind that telepathically and technologically is linked to its drones. This vast unimind is resistent to telepathic assults and when a drone is deassimilated he or she retains a telepathic resistence of +2.
    Further I have allowed telepaths to eavesdrop on the collective, but with every round the run a risk of being assimilated or overcome by the vast power of that mind. The difficulty is moderate and goes up every round. No dicernable information can be attained and it is a useless attempt. Of course the players don't know this and thats what makes it fun.
