    Post-Dominion War Status Quo

Im thinking about dusting off my LUG trek game that was set during the Dominion war and updating some things. The group was involved in some very large scale battles and one included severe damage to several known ships.

Does anyone ahve any ideas, sites, concept for hos things are in the Federation with the war completed andVoyager back at home. Im thinking about incorporating elements of the other series into my own campaign, most notably having some of Voyager's crew potentially serve as mentors or Academy instuctors to some new crew members.

Anyone care to drop their 2 cents worth on some plausible fates of Voyager or even TNg's cast?

    Cool

I don't know if this will help but here goes: as far as Voyager and her crew goes, if you pick up the book Star Trek Voyager Endgame (which is the adaption of the final episode of Voyager) and check the back of the book, you will find several chapters of a forth comming book which picks up a few seconds after Voyager ended. It deals with Voyager and her crew comming to terms with finally being home and what happens to everyone. It also includes appearences from some of the Next Generation characters. I hope this helps.

The Dominion War sourcebook has a short section dealing with the post-war geo-political situation in the Alpha/Beta quadrant after the war.

    The Federation

Federation policy after the Dominion War will be divided. I would think that there will be a peace party who would want to draw down Starfleet's numbers as a sort of "peace dividend" conveniently ignoring the other powers who may be as dangerous as the Dominion.

The war party would probably advocate a stronger more militarily oriented Starfleet to defend the Federation.

The there are the traditionalists who want Starfleet to go back to its old exploration mission.

In any event Starfleet would still be shattered with many ships destroyed and the survivors severely worn by three years of total war. Many have missed refits and routine yard maintenance due to operational requirement and will have to be airdocked for essential repairs otherwise they would fall apart.

In any event, plenty of resources will have to be dedicated to rebuilding the planets damaged by the war particularly Betazed and other occupied worlds. The Federation will also be trying to help rebuild Cardassia and hope to ensure a friendly Cardassia at the end of all this. Recruiting new members will also be a Federation priority but after the S'ona affair they will of course have to choose their friends more carefully. Bajor would of course be the first world admitted into the Federation.

    The Klingon Empire

The Klingons will have to sort out their political structure after Martok takes charge as Chancellor. He is of course pro-Federation so he will keep the alliance but there will be factions who want to end the alliance with the Federation.

The KDF was also as badly shattered as Starfleet by the Dominion War and will have to rebuild the ships they lost. But without the Federation's vast resources the time to rebuild will be longer and harder.

    The Romulan Star Empire

The Romulans while ostentiably an ally of the Federation and the Klingon Empire they will of course return to plotting the downfall of those self-same allies.

I would also think that the Romulans will be hard at work building new Warbirds carrying Dominion style weapons to fight the Tauhari and their erstwhile allies the Klingons and the Federation.

    The Cardassian Union

The worst hit major power, Cardassia will have to rebuild almost from the ground up. Although depenedent on the Federation, the Cardassians will be wary that they do not end up as a puppet state of the Federation reliant on the Federation for aid. I would think that a civil war may be brewing as various factions vye for power in the new Cardassian Union.

The De-militarized Zone will also be in a ferment as former colonists long cut off from their home states begin to feel that they should fend for themselves. My idea is that the Cardassian and ex-Federation colonies in the DMZ will declare themselves a new state (probably led by the Maquis who survived the purge by the Dominion/Cardassians during the Dominion War).

Here are some themes to use as you see fit:

    1. Criminal activity: With the Federation's resources stretched to the breaking point and beyond by the war, I'm sure that controling pirates, smugglers, etc by necessity HAD to take a lesser priority. I would expect a LOT of such activity, especially in the more remote "borderland" sectors.

    2. Digruntled colonials: Non-military colonial support would be another area cut back on during the war. After the war, the bulk of the Federation's "civillian affairs" budget would have to be devoted to rebuilding the most key worlds/facilities first. Of course, the colonials might not be too appreciative of that. Depending on the tone you want to set, this might lead to either tense negotiations with colonial officials or outright firefights with insurrectionists.

    3. Changing domestic socio-politics: Will the nature of the Federation survive it's near-destruction by the Dominion War? Will groups like the New Essentials Movement (from DS9's Risa episode) gain followers in the wake of chaos? Or will the citizenry go back to business as usual?

    4. Galactic politics: The Dominion is banished back to the Gamma Quadrant, the Federation is exhausted, the Klingons and Romulans crippled, the Cardassian Union all but destroyed. What other races out there might take advantage of the situation? What will the Tholians do? Or the Gorn? Use your imagination here...

    Hope this helps!

I am gearing up my online game to be peackeeping inbetween a newly rearmed (Dominion War Salvage) Tzenkethi and they incursions on the Talarians.

Also I am having the Magna-Romans start up as a minor power. Certainly the minor powers have a chance to become medium ones righ now IMHO

In fact Dominion War salvage has become a big thing for Ferengi Weapons Traders, who are gutting drifiting ships whereever they can find them, or kitbashing three or fous damaged ships into one working one and then selling it to the higest bidder.

One of my players (a Boslic) just got recruited by SI to head to the frontier and expose a arms running cartel that has been providing weapons and ships to various minor powers.

Actually its something I wrote up last year. A group of Maquis led by Ro, Tom Riker and others (obviously I wrote this before Avatar) have unified the various groups of colonists in the DMZ and talked them into forming the Free Stars Union taking control of the DMZ. One of the leaders is Gul Macet (from the episode The Wounded) - an honourable Cardassian a distant relative of Gul Dukat.

The FSU government sends a declaration of indepdence to the Detapa Council and the Federation Council calling for recongition of their new state. To protect themselves they use something new, a weapon they acquired from an unknown source. A series of satellites releasing a ionic dispersal field which disrupts the engines, sensors and weapons of any ship which passes through the field leaving them vulnerable to the FSU's ships which are war surplus they picked up from a Ferengi arms dealer.

The FSU have gained the recognition of the Romulan Star Empire who have also provided the FSU with a couple of Stormbird cruisers (Klingon D-7 cruisers sold to the Romulans in the TOS era not combat efficient now, but suitable for the FSU's purpose).

The Cardassians are too weak to do anything about the secessionists and the Federation believing in self-determination is prepared to let the FSU go as they deem fit although they are worried about a Romulan influence within the FSU. So will the new state survive?

Although we played out some of the preliminary scenarios, the opening moves by the ex-Maquis to obtain weaponry and materiel but never got into the meat of the campaign before we got sidetracked and never got back to it.

For one possible take on the Gorn, read the ST:TNG graphic novel The Gorn Crisis from WildStorm comics. This story takes place during the Dominion War and deals with the Federation's attempt to recruit the Gorn as an ally. In addition to a great story, this novel also contains a wealth of information regarding Gorn physiology and culture.

OKay I snipped the rest, but I like

It could still work today with Avatar (if you use it) in the sense that Ro is actually there as a spy to keep an eye on everything and provide intell to Riker and say... Sito Jaxa as they prepare with Macet to create the FSU (though I would hange the anem, to UFP for me).

Interesting idea, I will cultivate it

But is it in the Federation's and Bajor's interest to have a new wild card thrown into the mix by having a hand in the creation of the FSU? Especially a state with the support of the Romulans. I mean yes they are allies but does anyone trust the Romulans...and whose to say the Tal'Shiar isn't running a rogue op to destabalise the Federation. Once one world breaks free others can do so as well...

In light of Avatar, I'd re-write the story to having Tom Riker lead the whole operation. Ro may be re-called to active duty to provide intel on the Maquis network but I doubt she'd cooperate with Starfleet particularly since she joined the Maquis to set up an independent state in the DMZ.

Hmmm...I meant that Ro would be doing intel for Riker and crew, not Starfleet.

Or did I misread what you said?

Either way ths could create a very tense local over all.

And would Starfleet SI be sent in to destablize the endeavour? Certainly could bring to light the political schizims in the UFP post DW.

What I said works both ways. Ro's back in an independent Bajor and has found a new lease in life with new friends and I doubt she'd want to jepardize it by betraying them to the Maquis...although she may still have some lingering loyalities which would prevent her from spilling the beans on the Maquis but I doubt they're enough for her to go the other way.

As for the 2nd point, I have my doubts about sending SI in to destabalize the situation. Remember the Federation renounced all claim to worlds within the DMZ in the 7th season of TNG and evacuated all its nationals from the zone. So anything that happens within the zone would be an internal matter which according to the Prime Directive, Starfleet cannot intervene.

I suppose you could be right on the DMZ/PD arguement, but I am sure someone somehwere in the command chain would see a new political body as a threat...hmmm...they would at least I suppose keep an eye on it if the Romulans were involved.

But then would the Klingons and Romulans given up their captured Cardassian territories either?

This could create a big political hotspot for sometime to come.

The ramifications of the post Dominion War galaxy are vast and well i think it boils down to "Anything May Happen."

The Klingons would probably be divided about the occupied Cardassian worlds. The Federation would of course want their closest ally to give up those worlds but Martok may face domestic opposition if he does so quickly.

The Romulans would hang onto those worlds just for the hell of it and to make things difficult for the Federation. But remember holding on to them would also require the Romulans to rebuild them after teh devesatation of war...so they may withdraw only because it may not be worth their while to continue the occupation.

Then there are the Cardassians who may not take too kindly to foreign occupation. Fine when they do it to someone else...

I was under the impression from the on screene vidence that the Romulans came out of the war with the least amount of losses, but I could be wrong.

Now would the Romulans release Bynus in return for less pressure to abandon captured Cardassian worlds?

As for the Klingons, imagine the trouble Martok would be in if he tried to order houses to give up pluner in the form of captured territory...

You know, reading all these posts, I get the impression that the Cardassian Union is looking a lot like post-WWII Germany; a defeated power that is currently divided into several occupied zones.
If I was in charge of Federation foriegn policy, I would probably cultivate the FSU as a client power in that region and offer aid and assistance (to offset Romulan influence).
Sales of older starships would also be a possibility.
As for the Romulans and Klingons...they will more than likely seek to incorporate the worlds that they occupy into their respective empires and would be vehemently opposed to any attempt by Cardassia to reconstruct their Union.
