Your point being?
No power in the 'verse can stop me.

His point is that the Ferengi were first seen in TNG's first season. It was in the episode with the Tkon Empire Outpost, I forget the name.
Before that, all the Federation had was a few rumors of some piracy. Nobody had any idea that the Ferengi were out there.
But, now, we find that the Ferengi have explored right up to our metaphorical doorstep, and are about as close to Earth as the Andorians, and Closer than the Romulans.
So, why the heck haven't we either bought advanced weaponry/warp drive/what have you from them, or already been turned into a strip mine?
And, where the Hades did they go for 250 odd years?
This does not make me happy.

I see.
But I remember Picard making some remarks about the Ferengi in the pilot.
Space is huge, anyway.
Add to the fact, that I, an above average TNG fan, had no clue as to what the hoopla was about...
Agreed, they are putting those references in so the fans can have fun with them (at least I hope that that is their only motive) so they should try to get things right.
But so what? As long as the stories are good, the minor details can be washed over.

Before we all start talking canon-violation here, remember that this is an early draft of the script.
Just like the pilot and its "Andorian" moons, the script will likely be gone through by a continuity expert (or samesuch) to weed out the issues.
If it survives to air, then we can complain. Right now its just a writers glitch...

Well I'm not to concerned with some of the info, But I really think it's too soon for Ferengi. Wasn't Pickard's Stargazer one of the first contacts with them? How ever with the "Andorian Incident" all I can say is it's about time another of the core Federation species are mentioned...yet I wonder what the new look is going to be like...<shiver>

The "Battle of Maxia" represented one of the first known contacts with the Ferengi, but the Ferengi were not identified as such at that time. It was an "unknown threat force" until Ferengi involvement was confirmed nine years later.Originally posted by Phoenix

Who really knows how long rumors of the Ferengi were floating around, or how many unsolved piracies they were involved in? As long as there is no directcontact during Enterprise's run, they can make all kinds of reference without really injuring any established history.

That's for sure. In fact, TNG stated that there WERE rumors of the Ferengi that propogated before actuall contact. And here in this Enterprise episode, Earth hears secondhand rumors of the Ferengi. Sounds not only fits in cannon, but SUPPORTS cannon to me.
