Question What do you think of Farscape?

I've watched some Farscape episodes on my frequent visits in the States.
They look good and very interesting to me, although Star Trek is still my favourite (in all its incarnations, except Voy).

It's probably not to everyone's taste (few things in life are) but Farscape (IMHO) is an exceptional show. And takes a lot of risks with it's storylines and characters.

We have only seen the 1st season here in Canada, and based on that I love the show.

So far only one person (and his wife) that I turned on to it weren't really swayed, they just couldn't get past the "muppets" as they put it.

I like it, the stories and characters are interesting, and more fleshed out than in most series.

The 'muppets' put me off at first as well. It was actually my girlfriend that got me into it during the second season. Now I just can't miss it

Great characters and stories. Lots of cool aliens -- not just the ST 'head alien' of the week. Good acting. Much more daring humor than the US would ever attempt.

For my taste, the best sci-fi on TV since Babylon 5.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Farscape actually has the misfortune of being on on our gaming night. Keep trying to remember to tape it.

What I've seen of it I rather like. Certainly not perfect, but has a certain boldness and confidence to its style which I rather like.

    hmmmm;

    Farscape.

The massive experience that the USA has with producing TV Sci-Fi.

combined with the brash enthusiasm Australians have for producing fantastical shows that can really cover issues, and keep at them even if initial viewing figures are low, instead of cancelling the show.

combined with the general weirdness and expertise of the Jim Henson creature workshop. Ensuring that not all aliens are 'human with bumpy foreheads'.

combined with compelling, believable, and even amusing characters, portrayed by skilled actors who leave you caring about the characters.

combined with a witty script and above average plots, where even the tired old plots are hard to spot.

In all, Farscape is an exceptional show, and goes on my essential viewing list, and along with Stargate pretty much the only DVD friendly TV show out there, and unbelievably, is far more easily accessable in Oz and the UK than it is in the USA, reversing the 'wait 6 months' attitudes that our cable companies have.
sorry guys, it might not be a politically correct view, but it is a refreshing change on this side of the pond.

That would be a vote for a Superb TV show.

How about a few more choices with this poll? You seem to go from one extreme to the other with little gray area. "Exceptional" and "Worth Watching" aren't too distant of opinions. "Discrete" doesn't really make much sense as an option. And "Worst I've ever seen" just goes to the opposite end of the spectrum. How about a little middle ground?

For the record: I think it's a good show. I've seen some good and bad episodes and think it rates as a 'decent' Space Opera television show. There's been times that I was captivated by it and others were I was compelled to change channels 'til the next episode of Lexx came on the air.

You've only had the first season?

    You poor, poor man...

If you loved it based on that, wait until you see the second...

And for those that think it's dull or just about alright - it works out much like a Trek show - it gets better as it goes along. IMHO, the second half of the second season was one of the best sequences I've seen anywhere!

Sorry Mr. Lapdog, but I had only 4 choices to post on my poll.
Just ask the moderators of this Forum to know why.
I agree with you that some more gray areas had been more fair, but as I said, I had no choice.
