I just reread this whole thing and forgot one simply advantage the PCs have in this whole affair...

    Spock is on their ship!

He is the ace in the hole, the character who can figure things out (since no PCs play sciences, they find it to be a parrot position)

Hmmmm...watching Yesterday's Enterprise really got me going on this one

Okay so what kind of ship should the future Lexington be?

Any fan based ships or ships from video games you guys can suggest?

But seriously folks, how about an assault carrier, a huge ship that combines the firepower of a dreadnought with a full strike wing of fighters (sort of like the Federation Space Control Ships from Starfleet Battles)...and better yet, why a lone ship, how about a battlegroup consisting of the USS Lexington as flagship with attendant escort cruisers and destroyers.

I think they will have an easier time getting away from a single ship then they would and entire battlegroup.

I was thinking, what are those big ships from Armada called? Or was it the Dominion Wars game?

Okay drop the battlegroup but a single Space Control Ship should scare the PCs shitless.

In Starfleet Battles, the Space Control Ship is the capital ship of all capital ships, usually built on the hull of a heavy carrier or dreadnought, it carries the firepower of a dreadnought supplemented by a fighter group of 12 - 24 fighters and a squadron of 6 gunboats, with its usual escort of a light cruiser and two destroyers, a SCS battlegroup is a potent fighting force. How's that for an idea.

From what I recall, the SCS looked like a very big "Constitution" class ship, so you could make it a very big "Sovereign" a very big "Sovereign".

You'll have to add shuttlebays for 24 strikefighters and mechanical tow links for the gunboats (roughly equal in size to a Defiant) they're too big to be carried internally but instead of using tractor beams, they used hardlinks to prevent power loss from cutting the gunboats free.

A basic fighter strike group consists of 12 fighters, 10 strike bombers and 2 Space Warning and Control (SWAC) shuttles. The latter are electronic warfare/sensor shuttles to increase detection range and give the fighters electronic support during strike missions.

All in all I don't see why it needs escorts.

Well I may not go that far, but it will be a carrier...especially considering there will be a war going on at the time
