    Virtual Reality Control Systems (VRCS)

I got this idea some years ago when Seaquest DSV was on (I know)...but what I liked was the virtual reality controls on the sensor probes that formed a recon shell around the Seaquest.

We've seen them use VR technology to control special sensor probes on TNG. I'm thinking of adding a limited VR control system for sensor probes without the full body suit, so you only need the goggles and gloves to control the probes. Of course the sensor returns from the probe would be fed by VR to the controller refining the sensor data processing to a degree where its more efficient than usual sensors.

Actually that could be an interesting plot line for an episode. Scientists bring some of these VR goggles aboard so the crew can exercise a field test. However, during the testing the crew is exposed to unknown particulates by virtue of the VR. Now the crew is not actually sick, the VR are just that good that their minds think that they have become infected by somethin.

The PC's must now figure out why this happened, could be a Technobabble disruption field. Crewmen are dropping like flies from a condition which is only in their minds.

The VR goggles are considered a success although few ships are equipped with them and their use is strictly regulated. Meaning that the PC's ship is the only one allowed to have them .

Its a good idea, I despised Seaquest but at least it provided some good ideas.

Not bad...good plot device...it has to be used with caution but the PC ship has the chance to test it to see if they can make it a foolproof system.

I'd like to install the the system on the bridge, maybe as a add-on to the mission ops station. This allows an officer to control the VCRS probes (preferably a science officer) and feed data to the tactical officer and the ops officer who use a modified monocle type system which allows them to use the VR data while still able to see their own controls.

Question Sorry. Off topic but. . .

what is Seaquest? I am assuming you are not talking about the old Atari game I played as a kid.

Was that the WSKRs system? Loved that idea

Actually was a fan of the show as well.

redwood, it was a sci-fi show on NBC(?) from the mid 90s.

I think it was called WhiSKeRs...and it does add a lot of sensor capability as VR sensor readouts should be better than normal sensor readouts (what kind of bonus do you get I wonder? I was thinking +3 suggestions).

I'd say it would mainly make teleoperation of the probes easier, although you could make the arguement that the VR rig pre-processes the sensor data to make it easier for the Science Officer to comprehend it. I'd allow the +3, with the trade-off of it being total immersion experience. The person controlling the probe has no idea what's going on around them on the bridge.

Talking "VRC, another fine Roddenberry product"

Hey guys, doesn’t Andromeda have some kinda VR control on its ‘fighter drones’? And how about the shuttle-pods on Earth: Final Conflict (at least the ones at to last year. I haven’t seen ‘this year’s models’ yet)? Of all ‘VR tech’ I’ve seen, I like the E:FC stuff best (it’s closer to 'holo-tech'[which I like], and those goggles [which I hate] are gone).
...and that's about the time it hit the fan...

    Truisms I know:
    1) Marvel is NOT better than DC (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘ULTIMITED’),
    2) D20 is NOT the best gaming system out there (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘crammed’ into it),
    3) And No matter how ‘THEY’ dress it up, Regardless of how ‘THEY’ title it, and even if ‘THEY’ say “BASED ON…”; “ENTERPRISE” IS NOT STAR TREK!!!
    4) 'Reality' T.V. ain't 'Real'
