GLowpig! I like it it fits in well with my earlier Tellarite Engineering terms.

"Watch on The Zone" - 2160's - 2210's popular song from the feds early days, was a variant of an older Earth Song called "Watch on the Rhine".

"Met their Cheron" - 2160 - present, replaced an old Earth military saying "Met their Waterloo". In referanece to someone meeting defeat in a decisive battle such as that fought by the Romulans at Cheron in the Romulan War.

"Venus District" - early starfearing days to present, Refers to that part of a space station or port of call where places of ill repute and persons of "open" morals are frequantly encountered.

"Red Light District" 2360's - present an older Earth term for "Venus district" reinvented for use in the 24th century to refer to those more "gentlemenly" establishments for higher, usally command level (hence 'Red'), officers.

todays slang term is :Barn Door
it is used in referance to the shuttle bay doors that open rearward on most Starfleet ships.i.e They closed them so fast , my shuttle almost got clipped by the barn doors.

Also if the bay doors open forward it is called a "gate" or "front gate". There is a new variation in the Defiant class ,because they open to the back but on the underside of the hull. The word is `sha'brath. it is the mystical south pole of bajor , but this refernce to the shuttle bay doors is more likly to come form the bajoran slang useage as a rude word for the anus

Echelons above God -- the flag ranks, JCS, and other people whose job is to get your ship slagged.

Well, this thread has prompted me to add a section to the glossary on my game page (currently undergoing a massive update!), and you guys are on notice that I'm stealing a lot of this material!

Todays StarFleet sland word is :Boxer

recent; The word can be traced to the new rank style , an admiral has a gold metal rectangular border around his rank pips. This lead to the term Boxer for admirals i.e. She was captain of the Wasp before she got her promotion and became a boxer.

Owen i would be greatly pleased if you stole from me

Some minor suggested changes to some of the above:

"Echelons above Reality" level in the chain of command totally disconnected with events in the field.

"Mustang" former enlisted servicemember who earned commission, usually thru OCS, but also applies to direct commissions and those selected to attend the full Academy.

"Ring-Knocker" term used by Mustangs to refer to non-prior-service Academy graduates.

"Beyond Freakin' Egypt"/ "BFEville" a location .5 microns from the exact center of nowhere. Non-human or non-Terran born often substitute a similar location from their home planets with a historical reputation for remoteness.

    Got a few more:
Red Light(ed): To have S.F. Command give a definitive ‘no’ to a request for approval on a course of action, usually with a description of the consequences (court martial, suspension,…)

Blue Light Special: An EMH that acts ‘beyond’ it’s programming (kinder, gentler, different knowledges on non-medical skills)
    (Blue=Medical, Light=Hologram, Special=You should get the rest )

E.I. (Oh…): E.I. refers to ‘Enterprise Incident’(oh [Data explanative]), it's usual used as a engineering ‘benchmark’ (“All ships can not leave spacedock or shipyard without a skeletal crew, including civilians. A ship may also not leave if it doesn’t have a minimum of 10% ordinates, and all systems installed and online…this is result of E.I. number …”). The idea was learn from prior errors, in order to prevent ‘Til Tuesdays’.

‘Til Tuesday: A disaster that could have been dealt with a lot easier, were it not for the lack of one or several pieces of equipment.

Todays starfleet slang word is: Doc Photon

recent; it is a deragatory term for a medical hologram , The EMH {emergency medical hologram} series seem to find it very offencive , but the more charming LTMH{long term medical hologram} seems to find it a term of endearment and often uses it as reference to himself. This change seems to come from the better bedside manner of the Dr. Bashir based personality matrix. i.e. The Doc Photon poped up and began lecturing me on the reasons to stay out of the venus district, but i told him to stick it where the isometrics don't shine.

Forgot some (also thought ‘let’s do this more encyclopedia-like’):
Flapjack: (v) To complete a saucer separation emergency landing well in rough conditions (i.e.: strong gravity wells, fast asteroids, etc. ). “Red Alert! Warp core breach imminent! Prepare to commence a flapjack in the forested area 200 Km from the northern polar region!” (Note: may also use Pancake for same reference.)
North-Forty: (n) The final resting place of a saucer, after it’s ‘slide-out’ (after an emergency landing). “Sir, north-forty will be roughly 80 Km after T.D.!”
High Chair: (n) The ship’s C.O.’s station (i.e.: the Captain’s chair) for the bridge (may be use for the one on the Battle Bridge, and Auxiliary Bridges as well). “Patch the information to the high chair, let the Captain see this…”

Todays Starfleet slang word is: Frankenstein

{n}recent, it is a deragatory reference to any ship that was contructed of mismatched spare, mothballed or reserve fleet parts. Many of the ships used in the later stages of the Dominon War were built/rebuilt that way. i.e. "That frankenstien was built back at starbase 213 out of parts from the New Orleans and the Wasp."
The original term comes from the doctor in an old earth novel about creating a living man from the parts of dead men. The term later spilled over to the name of the creature.
There has been some spread to other slang words from this root.
The rebuilt 7th fleet was called the "Franken`Fleet" because of its makeup motly and kitbashed ships. The fleet itself was almost wiped out but regoined the fighting with a fleet of frankensteins.
The mobile Dry Dock #22 was called "Transalvania" because of the huge number of Frankenstein ships it turned out. Again a "creep" in the slang term from it origin. The original story was not based in Transalvania ,but its was later used as the generic place to put all Gothic horror stories. Dry Dock#22 has been dedicated as "U.S.S.Transalvania". The only dry dock to be dedicated and is now touring federation worlds as a travaling museam and recruiting tool.

White Hunter: (n)recent. This is a term for any ship or soldier who has killed more than it's share of Jem`Hadar. The orginal use of the slang was for ground secruity who would make trophies of the ketracel-white vials of the jem`hadar soldiers they had killed. It later moved up to include ships that were very good at fighting the Jem`Hadar warships. i.e. The U.S.S. Centar was good , but the Defiant was the ultimate white hunter.
