    Captain Zymmer Must Die!

    Got your attention.

So here's the deal, Captain Zymmer, recently awarded a Galaxy class starship named for his now gone Ambassador, USS Exeter.

He lost the Exeter in Endgame Redux, and on his Galaxy class he is going to be sent to chart and explore the Pleiades.

Well first he remains in the Federation durin 2379, leaving in maybe the later part of the year for his mission, once Starfleet feels they can expend a seasoned commanding officer.

Now once in the Pleiades I intend to run my "Derelict" idea on him, but changing it up so the ship is overrun by some kind of spider-like alien race that kills everyone on board, except Captain Zymmer's fiancée (maybe wife at this time) Lt. Cmdr. Urram (Betazoid counselor).

Before this I am thinking os making sure that Captain Stocker becomes good friends with both of them and even takes Zymmer's adoptied daughter onto the Lexington as a Sciences officer.

2380 (Season 3) I will have an adventure where they find the Exeter adrift, hundreds of light years away from the Pleiades.

Just thinking out loud really, but open to comments and input as well

The end result is they must save Urram, but lose the Exeter, which should be destroyed to make sure the aliens do not spread.

I was thinking they picked them up in a space cloud, like on that episode of Farscape with the space bugs. But I see these guys being like locust. They strip planets as they move. Eating everything organic, leaving barren rocks in their wake.

The only reason that Urram has survived is that she used her mental training to make herself invisible to their senses.

    Kick the can gang?

I should also mentiont hat Zymmer's daughter is a Romulan foudnling, who he adopted and sponsored into Starfleet academy.

Since Urram is a PC, it would be setting her up as a secondary counselor on the LExington after this whole adventure, and with Zymmer's daughter there, it would be nice to have her step-mother on the ship eventually.

Spider like aliens? Sounds like something out of Stargate SG-1 IMHO. The mechanical self replicating race which devours starships to replicate themselves. Could be an idea.

Just some random thoughts from my work addled brain.
    Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden!
Fell deed awake: fire and slaughter!
Spear shall be shaken, shields be splintered,
    a sword-day, a red-day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!

Okay I don't want them eating starships do I? Otherwise how would Urram survive?

But it makes for an interesting threat to say the least.

But how do work it, how to work it?

Which episode of SG1 was that? I am thinking about buying Season 1 on DVD

    Lightbulb

Well, just one suggestion for the aliens, but a bit creepy : the alien could be more like an intelligent virus. They would attach them to anything organic, and slowly deplete it from its cells (eh, this was a TNG episode - the one where Data experiences nightmares, forgot its name - maybe possible to reuse the metaphasic aliens, or some enhanced version that doesn't fear Data's scream ), and, of course, transmit themselves by contact.

So the crew could start deperish without any scan explaining it, and everybody ending killed before anything could be done.
Eh, maybe the aliens could use some Psi powers instead of metaphase technobable to remain undetected. For instance, they could wipe themselves from their victim's mind, so that not even won't the victims see them, but they will also forget anything pointing to the aliens. That said, a powerful Psi could be able to see them through, and even reverse the process and become invisible to them - or also simply being able to grab the thing and throw it away.

But this is rather a creepy idea, I agree...

However, imagine : the Betazoid would see every crew member deperish in a few days, and notice some little aliens attached to them, but nobody but her would see them, and even people she told them about would not hear and forget instantly what she says...

I think I managed to scary myself on that one

Why do I get this strange feeling of deja vu.

I can't recall the exact episode(s), but it was at the end of season three and the beginning of season four (cliffhanger city).

Season 1 of SG-1 was not the best there were some excellent episodes but some pretty bad ones as well. I'd recomend you buy English for DVDs as they're up to season four now while the American DVDs have only released season 1 and season 2 is about to be released.

Anyway how the Cmdr Uram survives, well that's up to you. Maybe the replicating spiders haven't devoured the whole ship, there are still sections which are habitable and the surviving crew are fighting a desparate rearguard action to stop the "bugs".

One interesting wrinkle, the "bugs" are immune to energy weapons and in fact get stronger everytime they are hit by energy based weapons. Fine on SG-1 where the team has access to good old fashion slug throwers and shotguns but a living nightmare to a phaser/disruptor wielding society.

C5 THAT IS A CREEPY IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I like it.

I will save it for the Halloween episode

But the question becomes, how did she keep herself safe from them?

How does the Exeter wind up hundreds of light years away from where it is supposed to be?

Why wouldn't the poor girl just be insane?

Man I got a shiver when I read your post...very, very creepy...I like

Unfortunately I have a Region 1 DVD player, so I can't get english (Region 2) DVDs.

    Oh well.

Maybe I can use those spiders for another episode alter on

Man C5s idea is pretty good, feel like adjusting your sights on to it? *hope* *hope* *hope*

    Hmm...question 1 and 3 I think I handled, see above.

Question 2...the usual standbys are the best, wormhole, temporarl displacement or any one of dozen technobabble explanations. Maybe there is no explanation...she just doesn't know. "Good damnit Stocker, I'm a counselor, not a science officer." THe old standby put downs are equally the best.

Got mine retuned to play all regions. cost me a bit but I can watch the whole spectrum of DVDs from anywhere in the world. Hell its probably illegal but what the hell.

All I say is, that's your choice. I want to use 'em myself next year but since some of the players have seen the episodes I'm modifying them so that they won't suss out the winning solution to easily.

On region coding, depends on the machine mostly.

Not all players can do it, and the ones that can are getting yanked off the North American market more and more.

As for mech-spiders. I like the diea of them being a locust, so I will use that at some point in Season 3, where they find a series of once teaming with life planets barren and deserted, billions of beings just gone...

As for C5...I like the idea of them being a bit like the ghosts from Final Fantasy the movie.

Man you're too fast guys!! I can't begin to answer a post you already posted three each!!

Well the thing would be, once you can see the aliens, it becomes quite easy to avoid or even kill them. A tricorder can pick them up, you can even see them, etc... but if you can't resist their Mind Control, your brain will edit them out and every reference to them as well. So Uram just need to lock in her quarters or the bridge or wherever, erect a force field around the place, and she'll be safe.. but chances are she'll end up in a really fragile state of mind (that way, it's even more easier to edit her warnings ).

As for the ship, well, like ghosty said, anything could happen...
Hey, why for instance, wouldn't you twist the plot further and add a rather advanced species (but only in some areas, maybe for instance, with high psi powers, but very little tech, something the level of Enterprise), that tries to fight the aliens, and, seing that ship infected, decided to stop the spreading into an unknowing world (the UFP ), and, applying some sort of PD, throwed the ship far away to avoid contamination.
That way, they could even later try to stop the Crew's effort of getting the ship back, but still avoiding to show themselves.

Zymmer, I can't really improve on C5's idea. I think you should run with it.

THe only problem is how Cdr Uram stays sane in the face of all this. Well why does she have to. Try this, she goes completely off the bend (since she's a PC you'll have to get PC cooperation for this one) but in her demented state manages to fight off the psychic parasites, maybe the parasites can't handle a mind like that (or maybe her personal shields are too strong for them to overcome).

Now enter the Lexington...and well they recover the insane Uram and well enter solo adventure for the ship's resident counselor or Vulcan to try to unscramble Uram's mind. As a thought maybe its her Romulan stepdaughter who helps her pull through, you can't start the bonding process too early can ya.
