    Talking Hey Uncle George...

I'm a Star Wars fan .. and probably been one for a lot longer than those pretty singer boys.

Can I have a bit part in Attack of the Clones? I can body double for Anakin when he finally boffs Amidala -- or will that scene only be in the adult version of the movie?

Oh I can think of worse things than people pointing out their favorite boy-band member during episode 2, friends and I have had the following joyful experiences at films lately:

sitting next to people dressed as wizards, orcs and hobbits -- shoddily dressed with cardboard swords and tinfoil hats with body odor that needed its own zipcode during a certain fantasy film that was sold out so there was no where else to sit.

having people argue about levels and hit points during said film to the point that one person (*not* I) stood up in the theatre and and said, "one more role playing comment and i go postal!" causing a ripple of laughter through the crowd and an end to said role playing discussions, at least until the end of the film when it got rather heated, thankfully at that point, we could all run out of the theatre and inhale fresh air.

oh, and please, please people don't bring those burger king glow in the dark goblets into the theatre, they're hypnotic, espcially to young children (who really shouldn't be at that show anyways, it's rather violent), causing them to whine "i want one! I want one...and parents to grumble, please god, not another "gotta collect them all...."

please understand, I am speaking a bit tongue in cheek, but the levels of geekdom at some of the screenings of LOTRs I and my friends have experiences was rather amazing.

.....and don't get me started on Episode 1 -- people were throwing popcorn at the screen after three minutes of jar jar, twenty people walked out of the theatre when atikin's mom said that he had been born without a father, and the groans from the crowd during the midi-cholorian lecture was heard by friends of mine watching another film next door...

oh and the episode 2 trailer...ye gods...three young ladies in the front of the theatre actually shouted "yes, a chick flick!" in response to the extended scenes of atikin and amidala going all romantic...groan....needless to say there are reasons i rarely goto the threatre these days...... ;-)

    Where's my barf bag...'nuff said.

Seriously I think George has lost it and somehow ...I mean he has the audacity to call Willow the best fantasy film on the DVD...utter rubbish. Even before LOTR there were at a half-dozen fantasy films that were better than Williow which was nothing more than a Star Wars clone.

    Post Feminine hormone?

I'm going to be in a dark, crowded movie theater surrounded by a sea of feminine hormone with their pierced belly exposed trying to reach over
    And this is bad... how?

    < SW-bashing on >
I just don't care... never was a SW fan, and, anyway, I saw only one of the movies (the first one, now the fourth)
Maybe my friends will manage to kidnap me to see this one, though. They may grow tired of me asking question about what alien looks like when we're at the RPG table

Anyway... Star Trek had Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest minds alive, playing in one TNG episode... if Star Wars uses a boys band in a movie, then this will be a definite clue about the IQ difference between this two SF masterpieces
    < SW-bashing off >

No offense to SW fans meant in any way. I'm just joking! What I really think is that I don't really care who plays in a movie, as long as the movie itself is good .

It's like watching the Super Bowl with my girlfriend commenting on the backsides of the football players, who of course picked this opportunity to ask me about the sport of football. "What's a punt?" "What's roughing a kicker?" "Why do quarterback slide on the ground?"

    AARRGH!!!
What's wrong with checking out Football Player Backsides?

Actually, I hear you. When I saw LOTR:FOTR on X'mas day, there was a group of people who liked to "point out who so and so was." "That's the guy from the Matrix!" they cheered, "Hey, he's from that other movie!" they yelled. I missed the scene with Frodo and Bilbo where Bilbo makes a grab for the ring because I left the theatre to get a tough-looking-theatre-guy(tm) to come back in and tell them to shut up.

Exactly how I feel! I will probably get flamed for admitting this but I liked the Phantom Menace. Although I did think the Anakin Skywalker/Virgin Birth thing was stupid - "I don't know WHO his father was" would've been just as mysterious and not nearly as dumb-sounding.

For me and my money this is yet another indication that Lucas doesn't care about the fans who kept Star Wars alive all those years, and instead is marketing to a whole new generation and abandoning us.

Still I suppose he has to make money.

I don't really see how Lucas has "abandoned" the old guard fan at all. With only two complaints Phantom Menace was an alright film, my problems were Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd (who couldn't act his way out of a bag.)

I mean Anikin and Amidala are the parents of the two heros of the later movies...I think a little romance is to be expected. Or did you think they just hopped into the sack one night?

I think it will have elements in it to keep just about everyone happy.

When I saw the thread title, I tought you were talking about the Big Guy in the White House.....

But it's rather lame, possibly even lamer than the title. You don't announce the names of non-famous fans who get a role as extras in your movie, do you? (And please people, no more "Welcome to Rivendell, mister.....Anderson" jokes!)

Frodo Baggins, also known as Mister Underhill.

Phantom: I am not going to have this out with you. There are two types of Star Wars fans, those who liked Phantom Menace and those who didn't.

I am sure there is a middle third as well, but anywho, enough has been said on this topic already.

I ask myself that one... it's FOOTBALL fer crissake, not patty-cake!!

Anyway, I don't expect any of the new SW movies to be as good as the first 3... so I'm willing to wait for it, without many expectations.

    Unhappy

Hmm. Let me see ... I'M TWICE THEIR AGE!!!

A thirtysomething man in a crowded theater full of schoolgirls, definitely spells trouble.

    Wink There, There...

Reg, take comfort in the fact that N'Sync is a "Boy Band". For all we know, when the movie comes out they'll be bussing tables at Denny's with Menuedo and The New Kids on the Block
