Post EUNIX-the next generation of Starship Computer Systems

I figured that since that we are posting new weapons, propulsion and power systems, I decided that we also need upgrades to starship computer systems so here's something I found at the STF Trek PBEM RPG site:
Endocyclic Unified Neural Integrated Xenotechnologies (EUNIX) Starship Computer System
Description-The EUNIX system is a network of processing nodes spread throughout a starship. Standard fiberoptic cables are used to transmit between nodes and between sub-nodes within each processing node. ODN conduits between nodes are encased in a subspace field sustainer which allows data to transmit at FTL velocities. Each node is a bank of processors in and of itself. Depending on the purpose of the node, its composition varies from almost completely bioneural to completely isolinear. Bioneural circuitry is used for specialized, repeated tasks, from shield modulation to warp core monitoring. Isolinear units are used for higher processing requirements. Isolinear and bioneural sub-nodes are used concurrently in combinations deemed most suited to the tasks assigned each node.
Also, the multiple nodes provide backup and support for other nodes. There are virus blocks between each node and due to the de-centralization of processing, rendering the computer inoperable is impossible for all but the most skilled intruders with access to high-level codes.
Nodes are placed in space that might otherwise be useless, while the space normally taken up by bulky processing cores is used instead for other functions.
In Spacedock terms, the EUNIX system is built like a bio-neural system. The major difference is that damage to the system is handled like damage to the ODN (-1 penalty to all Computer Tests at 50% damage, -2 at 75% damage).
Note: The EUNIX was designed by Owen Townes.

Interesting, interesting

Got a link?

Also I think Bio-Neural was faster than Fibre Optic?

Just go to the STF Technical Manual. Some nice ships and tech there. Check out the EMH upgrade...

EUNIX-Core Element (EUNIX-CE)

Designed as an upgrade of the EUNIX system, the Core Element replaces the pre-existing isolinear/bioneural mix with a Quantum/Sub-Quantum state processor assisted by isolinear and bioneural elements. The Quantum/Sub-Quantum state processor computes not by 1s and 0s, but by the 16 quantum states of an electron and the 16 sub-quantum states of the three constituent particles of an electron. These create a multiplicative state, allowing for a data bit to exist in one of 768 states. The concept of a quantum-state processor has been around since the turn of the 21st century. The possibility for a sub-quantum state processor has been considered since the late 22nd century. Indeed, the technology has not been the major drawback. Instead, the programming logic necessary to interpret 768 possibilities has been incredibly difficult to integrate until recent philosophical advances have enabled such logic programming to take place.
The core element contains a number (dependent on core size) of one cubic centimeter packets of high-density hydride ion plasma. Each packet is surrounded by a state detector which, much like the scanners in a transporter (Heisenberg compensator included), reads the states of the electrons and sub-electrons and alters them as new data is written.
Output of the state detectors is routed and managed by bioneural and isolinear circuitry and secondary processors.
While the detector equipment takes up a sizable amount of space (a cube approximately 4 cm on a side), the increase in processing power means that starship cores can be greatly reduced in size. This naturally allows the already decentralized EUNIX cores to take up less space and even be located in space that otherwise would be wasted.
For Spacedock, the EUNIX-CE is similar to the standard EUNIX except that it costs 2x Size per system (core) and can compute up to 25% faster that a bio-neural core.

Haven't worked up any stats for this, but have had it kicking around since long before I found LUG Trek...and, BTW, before "Andromeda" hit the airwaves...

ICARUS (Intuitive Computer Access and Retrieval User-interface System) -- combines the strengths of a ship's computer system with a holographic persona module to create a fully-interactive computer personification which can respond in real-time to living beings aboard the ship. It can exercise control of most, but not all, ship systems (for example, while it can fly the ship as if it were a trained Conn Officer, it cannot activate the Auto-Destruct system).

Maybe I'll work on the game details in the next few days...maybe.

Knightsfyre, I suggest looking up the "A..L.I.C.E." Thread in these forums. The concept is somewhat similar and it has both ICON and SPACEDOCK Stats.
