    Station 419 3d model

Hi all. Last week I downloaded a free 3d modeling/animation program called Blender, and have been working on a model of the station my game is set in. I'd appreciate some feedback from the TrekRPG.net users. The model is still rough, and is by no means final. This is about four hours worth of work.

This view is of the whole station.

This is a close-up of the saucer, showing Operations and the sensor arrays.

    Comments? Questions? Snide remarks?

BTW, if you're interested in 3d modeling and don't know where to begin, let me recommend Blender. It's free. It's powerful. Did I mention it is free? I've followed two tutorials, read three others, and this is the level I'm at.

The word "Blender" in the first line of Anomaly's message is a link.

They've got excellent resources there for help if you need it, Aslan. Follow the 'Learning Path' tutorials - and you should be an expert.

Check out the new Operations close-up. I added windows.

The station is actually very small - it's just under 40 decks in height. It's an outpost that sits between the Federation/Klingon/Romulan border and is manned by only 210 people. Specs for it can be found at my web page below (under Theme section).

There are some 3d renders that one of our players did in the visuals section - you can see how much the Akira that is moored there dwarfs the station.

Sadly, I can't find the mesh he used. I wish I could - because it's better than the ones I can find.

Here is a textured version of Ops. I've been trying to get the texture map right - thus far it bleeds over the edge a slight bit.

I also can't figure out how to smooth the faces. I'm going to research that today and see what I can come up with.

Do you guys want to see progress pics like I've been posting? Or wait until I'm done? I don't want to annoy anyone.

Here is how Ops is shaping up, with the texture on it (and some self-illumination). It's shaping up nicely. I'm not happy with the texture's 'sides', but the top I'm very happy with.

That's starting to look real nice. Gonna do an aztec pattern on it or some other form of panelling/plating, or are you going for the TOS-ish smooth look?
