    Talking Some Great Convention News!

    For me at least!

As a lot of you may remember, I am the President of the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society (just got re-elected for a second term, BTW). Every year we hold our annual convention, Philcon, the oldest SF con in the US (there is one in England that claims to be older, but we don't believe 'em! ). We did not hold Philcon last year, however, since most of our society's membership were working on the World SF Convention (WorldCon), which was held in Philly last year (as was a big success, also!) And, since we were caught in an endless round of hotel contract negotiation, we were unable to make any announcements regarding our 2002 Philcon...

    UNTIL NOW!

Our Society's Board of Directors have approved our hotel contract (which will be signed shortly), and we will be holding Philcon 2002 at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel (next to our Convention Center) over the weekend of December 13th to 15th. The guests that we have signed so far are Artist Guest of Honor Donato Giancolla (an absolutely fantastic SF/F artist), and Special Guest David Gerrold (writer of the TOS ep. "Trouble With Tribbles", B5's "Believers", producer of TNG season 1 and the original "Land of the Lost", and writer of a lot of great SF novels, esp his "War Against The Chtorr" series... also, he's one HELL of a speaker!). We will have more guest signed up soon.

And, the big news, is that we were able to negotiate a contract allowing us to offer Marriott room rates as low as $79.00 to attendees at the con! For a 4-star hotel in the heart of Philly! Yahoo! I am very happy with this!

Once the names are on the dotted lines, info will be availible at our websites... www.psfs.org, or www.philcon.org.

    Any questions, let me know.

    Thanks for letting me share,
    Hugh

    WE HAVE A WEBSITE!

There's not much on it yet, but it's located at www.philcon.org. As more info is available, it will be posted.
