The title pretty much says it all.

He's an underprivileged skateboarding cowboy with nothing left to lose. She's a sharp-shooting goth bounty hunter who believes she is the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian queen. They fight crime!
To date I would have to say my favorite NPC to ever play is Admiral Pierce (based on Sean Connery) as I do a failrly good Connery impersonation
Overall though, all my NPCs have vibrant personalities, it is one of the things I always get complimented on by my players
Best PC I played was Captain Robert Delacourt, USS Athena, NCC-73224. My first go as captain, and the campaign lasted 45 episodes. Heckuva good time.
Best PC I didn't get a chance to play: Captain Derik Lars. He would have been the first Bajoran Captain in Starfleet (barring other people's campaigns). Had a great background and a ton of plot hooks. Alas.
Best NPC I played with: Lt. Cmdr. Michael Cochrane, Chief Engineer, USS Athena. My co-GM and I put this poor guy through the wringer over those 45 episodes, and he made it through. Got a wife, lost a wife, "died," and was resurrected. A true trooper.

Haven't played any NPC's
My best PC? has to be Captain Daniel Hunter. I've been playing Hunter for over a decade now (ignoring small changes due to altered timelines and such).
Best NPC. Hmm, probably that psychotic Orion pirate, Kradek the Cruel. The most insane, twisted characater I have ever come up with. He flips from slapstick humour to coldly evil from minute to minute. He's also a lot of fun to torment my players with bwooooooaaaaaaaaahahahahhahahahah
Best character would have to be Lt. Thorin in the old FASA game. Served aboard both the Eagle and Enterprise as Security officer. I played his grand son in the LUG TNG era Lt. Thorin P'Trell (Andorian sourcebook) security chief USS Apollo.
Best NPC would have to be Commander R'Vek CO Imperial Starbird T'Virik.
Dr. Titus Robecueaux -- chief medical officer on USS Athena. He's a 50-ish black Louisiana cajun from Lake Pontchartrain. He's a big man, a little overweight, not particularly good-looking, but rakes in the women with his friendly, down-home style. He's also constantly cooking for the crew...despite some objections that his bouliabase, etc... is way too fatty and unhealthy. Don't play cards with him, either...
But if you're shot up, he's the guy you want.
Quotes: "You no be too hurt, you...don' worry none, ol' Dr. Robecheaux get you fixed right up..." "Yeah, baby...here comes Titus' special sauce!"
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

OK, favourite NPC. Lieutenant Lizanne Woy, a Bajoran/Cardassian Communications Officer, orphaned and growing up on the streets, she was adopted by a Starfleet officer after discovering how difficult it is to pick the pocket of someone with a; No Currency and b; No pockets...
A beautifully rounded and thought-out character that the player never bothered with, and so the young lieutenant stayed with my ship.
My Favourite PC. Commander Hauq Tranatas, a senior Starfleet Bajoran, youngest recipient of the Chris Pike medal of honour and ex-resistance fighter, with a long and detailed history intertwining his past with that of the Emissary, ensuring his presence at Wolf-359 to apply a tractor beam to a lifepod at the moment and fulfill his 'Pagh' even if he didn't know it at the time...
He was also deeply scarred (Physical and Emotional) from Cardassian torture and having marital problems...
My one regret was that this was a freeform character, and never translated fairly into ICON...
But he did make a guest appearance as Colonel Hauq Tranatas, Legate Dukats right hand man in the mirror universe once.
My favourite PC from a player... I guess that goes to Mr Lerik, an old Vulcan master, chief of security and engineer.

The best PC in my games was Cpt Bill Stryker:
The only Cpt/SF Officer to directly or indirectly be responcible for the loss of 7 starships
And he's still kicking as a Cpt once more

Best PC: Lt.Cmdr.Khrys Antos, yup, myself...I love myself Been playing the same betazoid for now almost 2 yrs. Started an engineer then was forced into the XO position, lots and lots of plot hooks and history. Came close to dying dozens of times-ah...memories.
Best NPC: Fleet Admiral Desoto, based on Capatin Sulu. Was the main captain in the series for a while until we changed series styles and he was promoted.

i actually love all the PC´s of my current crew(i´m their narrator). They are my first crew which succesfully complete a mission without tryng to convince the captain to invade a neutral planet or starting a war with the romulans or ignoring the prime directive or...
My favorite NPC was Nacilis. He started out as modeled fairly directly after the Scicilian in "The Princess Bride", as the brain of a gang of small time crooks, each with impressive but highly specialized skills. But he evolved a long, long way.
The first adventure would have been the end of his involvement with the PCs, except that the PC security officer blatantly violated Nacilis's civil liberties, and it was necessary to show him that Starfleet officers aren't allowed to act like gangsters. Nacilis went free, and started turning up at odd times. But he got much more cagy and clever - never quite passing the line where he could be arrested, but always looking for an opportunity.
Then we switched the campaign from the Movie era to the TNG era. At this point, the old but still active Nacilis was head of the division of the Orion Syndicate which controlled crime in Outback Sector. And his schtick was that he had been able to gain power by picking up on clues that the PCs had missed... he had studied their missions, and followed up after them taking advantage of the few things they had overlooked. So many of his plans and schemes linked back to their ship's history.
Then the PCs got on the job breaking up his operation. Their successes in bringing Nacilis's criminal organization to justice were mirrored by a progressive degeneration of Nacilis's sanity. As his illicit accomplishments of a lifetime were unravelled, he became less and less the cool schemer and more and more obsessed with revenge. This finally led to his undoing when, in the act of destroying the Bismark-B, he went so far that his henchmen realized that he was taking them on a self-destructive path and in order to save their own lives, turned on him.
As I actually started this thread I thought I had better throw in my opinion.
Best PC I ever played, once: Lieutenant j.g Ephiny Coda, a joined Trill/Betazoid ship's Counsellor (The GM wanted someone with the whole empathy thing) on the USS Quetzacoatl. Ephiny was the first PC I actually did a background for, it was 7 pages long. Erin was the replacement for Tolin Coda, the USS Quetzacoatl's former Tactical Officer who laid down his life valiantly and got tw*tted for his efforts (It was at that point that the GM stated he had decided that my next character was going to be female. My reaction isn't repeatable in polit company). Ephiny had what could best be described as a interesting background. In the Academy Ephiny came third in the Academy Martial Arts tournament (after picking up some kickboxing training from watching her Thai dorm mate practicing). Ephiny's physical description was based directly on Gabrielle from Xena: Warrior Princess (the show had just started on British TV).
Anyway after all that effort after one session with the new character the group folded due to the people in charge being ass-holes (pardon my French) and I still haven't managed to use the background since (if I can actually find it).
The best two PC's I've ever ran a game for was the female Cardassian/Human XO and the male Trill CO in my last ST game, USS Sovereign. The two players managed to work up a love/hate relationship between the two characters (he loved her, she hated him) and it turned a game which started going downhill from the start into a mildly enjoyable game.

Ok. How's that work? Bajorans & Cardassians are each other's enemies?OK, favourite NPC. Lieutenant Lizanne Woy, a Bajoran/Cardassian Communications Officer, orphaned and growing up on the streets, she was adopted by a Starfleet officer after discovering how difficult it is to pick the pocket of someone with a; No Currency and b; No pockets...
How does your character get around hating herself?
Zyal (sp) didn't hate herself, she had low self esteem because everyone around her, Cardassian guards and Bajoran prisoners, hated her.
