An IRC Idea

Would anyone be interested in an ongoing IRC game that runs in a channel, with moderators/narrators, where characters must be approved in advance and is set on a space station?

This idea just came to me, and I am not sure how to do it, but it is in it's infancy right now.

    Anyone?

Love to. Only thing is I don't have an IRC number, or whatever you use. If it is run on something like magicstar...I'm in.

    Magicstar is an IRC server.

What you've described essentially sounds like a free-form MU* to me, Aslan.

These things are new territory for me. I know that Magicstar is an IRC whatever, but you can go on without an IRC number which I have done. Or is this standard on these things.

All I am saying is if I don't need a special number then I would like very much to play.

    MUD, MUSH, MUX, MUCK

    I can deal with.

Its just like having a realtime game but over the net.

Set up a channel on a IRC server like MagicStar. Password or not is up to the Narrator. (Only members in the channel can invite/PW people into the thread. So PW channels need to be organised with players in advance for PW)

Arrange your players in advanced with a set of guidelines. ie. this text fon't means we're in character, this one is DM scene setting etc.

Hook up a online di roller

    And organise a time

I'm interested as long as you take my K9 station setting

(Well, just the pun and the TOS ERA of course)

Well, it's simple to set up, really. If you're roleplay-oriented and not hack-and-slash, you want MUSH or MUX as your codebase. You download the server, configure and compile, and voila. You've got a game server.

Trouble is, there's no content to the database, so you need a fair amount of knowledge of how to program in MUSH/MUX code. See, these games are highly customizable, but you need to learn the online programming language. So there's a vast amount of time that's required to actually customize your game.

Visit Anomaly MUX for an idea as to what goes into a roleplay-oriented online Trek game. I have both played and staffed there, and I can say it's definitely all that and a bag of chips.
