How do you get Conn to do much piloting and such in non combat situations.
Sure, other ship stuff and away missions but specifically piloting and other things Conn does.
Oh and 800 yippee!

No part of space is completly empty. Throw in a debris field or astroid belt.
Well yes that could work, but you wouldn't want to do it to many times.Originally posted by Cmdr Corellis:

Simple. You don't !
Seriously, there's not much to do when the ship is in Cruise Mode. Checking and adjusting the course, perhaps making a sensor sweep every half hour, and that's that.
As someone said, space travel is about months of utter boredom with six hours of stark, screaming terror in between !

Its quite difficult to keep Conn busy out of combat, specially considering that the ships AutoPilot is supposed to handle most of the mundane piloting roles... However there are otherways to get the Conn officer to hone his skills.
Beware, there are no difficulty levels here, simply ideas for keeping conn busy;
Flight Hours; It has been specified in Voyager that all Starfleet officers should log a certain amount of flight time a month, so training and scouting missions away from the main ship are a must.
- this would explain why some away teams use shuttles for no reason when transporters would have been fine.
Training Sims; The pilot can use the holodeck to simulate ANY conditions and hone his skills.
Cross Training; Consider Geordi - Who moved to Engineering, Worf - who moved to Security and then Command, Paris - who works in sickbay, and O'Brien who become Ops /Transporter chief... All these former Conn officers increased their skills in alternate areas, thus allowing them to be useful elsewhere when the needs of the Conn were minor...

Dan.
"A couple of thoughts from a random mind!"
On our USS Shiva campaign, the conn officer was deeply interested on Starship tactics, so he always ran simulations for eventual threats and confrontations during the mission. He also helped when we did charting and cartography missions.
When you feel that a determinate character is being pushed to a second place, watch his related specializations, and accomodate the adventures for something that he could participate. It works fine for me. I even made him conduct his own repairs of the flight control console, so he had to buy the spec on Systems Engineering

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality
Have the Conn train others to do his job. There's nothing like doing a little flight training with a student who has no aptitude for piloting to give an instructor premature grey hairs.

LUGTrek isn't really dead. Not as long as we remember it.
Nice ideas all 'round.
So i'll keep him busy as much as I can and let him diversify his skills. He already has aptitude in tactics and knowing the PC, some engineering to.
Thanks
