"Our first Hockey Gold in 50 years!"
Ahem. Our second in a week. Both over the US. And if anyone wants to pooh-pooh the other one as "just women's hockey," they should watch the game. I'm not that big a hockey fan, but even I could tell that it was top flight stuff.
And what's this "ice" hockey BS I keep seeing. The game is named "hockey," not "ice hockey." I can see using adjectives to denote floor hockey, street (or road) hockey, field hockey, ball hockey and other derivatives, but if it's played on ice with bent sticks while wearing skates, it's just HOCKEY!
Nice to see Owen as cheerful as ever—even in the glow of gold!![]()

PbbbbbbbbbT!
Hey, congratulations on the Silver, Don! And I don't mean that in a snide way! Gotta wonder how the players in the men's game felt - was it "just 'nother NHL game" or was it different? I mean, these guys play against each other year in and year out. And is the rivalry going to affect them when they go back to the NHL?
So anyway, how's things in Salt Lake City? How have the Olympics affected life there? Did you get to see any of the events in person, or did you run screaming for the suburbs?

Are you sure it was the Russian who complained? I thought it was South Korea.
Sadly, this winter olympic will leave an indelible mark of controversies, until the next game.
Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

actually to be honest, they played harder then I have ever seen them play in the NHL. Our sports reporter made the excellent comment that if the played like that every week, the NHL would be the most popular sport in the worldOriginally posted by Owen E Oulton

It was an excellent shelf pece the the fantastic women's game, without the American ref giving Canada penalty after penalty![]()
Don't care much about the Olympics and certainly don't give a hoot about ice hocky.Originally posted by Owen E Oulton
Hey, congratulations on the Silver, Don!
Wife went to two events but I didn't go to any. Overall the net affect was zilch. I stayed away from downtown SLC (which I normally do) just to be safe. Traffic has been, surprisingly, better during the Olympics. So anyway, how's things in Salt Lake City? How have the Olympics affected life there? Have to admit, it wasn't nearly as bad as we'd thought it would be! (Although the constant low-flying air cover gets a bit old after awhile.)

Oh but last night here in Montreal there were some rioters that "celebrated" the win. What really shocked me is that most of them seemed to be middle-class college students; not your average "hooligan". These guys were a-holes : they destroyed a city bus and damaged several shops and cars. Usually I think of the riot police as thugs (and one day I'd love to see them on the receiving end) but I was glad for a change that last night they, hu-hum, showed the rioters the error of their ways.
On another note, I can't stand watching sports on TV... or at all!. Weird huh? You'd give me tickets for the best seats during a hockey game and I'd sell them. The only exception to this is Thai Boxing, which I sometimes enjoy watching.

Hey hey, great to see all the other Canadians on the boards celebrating our victory. Fergot to check the boards I was soooo excited.
Great game though, and props to the americans for putting up one Hell of a fight and making our boys earn the gold.
Heehee... still buzzed from that...
