A problem with the Klingon SRM

I tried to print off the Klingon SRM at a Kinko's earlier tonight. However, the file would not print regardless of what printer was used. The attendant downloaded the file to disk and tried to print it on another computer but was unable to. He thinks the file is corrupted. Has anyone else had problems printing the SRM?

Is he using that latest version of Acrobat Reader? That seems to be the usual problem...

I was able to DL it at work fine and view it no problems.

I took it home with me (both PDF and zip via a ZIP disk) and tried to view both the pdf and another unzipped one and found that they contained 'gibberish'.

I've since DL at home and found the same problem.

Is this simply because Im using the full Reader 4 at home while using 5 at work?

    Or perhaps something more sinister?

I have the exact same setup SIR SIG. And they are not joking in the the readme.txt when they say it requires Acrobat Reader 5 to read this SRM.

Be careful when installing a new version over an older one, since the system by default installs intoa different directory (corresponding to the version number), your file associations might still point to the older version.

It's purely the version. I just tried opening the same copy of the file in both v4 and v5 - v4 had all kinds of gibberish, v5 was fine!

I'd suggest upgrading, it's a much nicer interface anyway!

OK, I think I see the problem; the computer I was using at Kinko's opened the file using Acrobat 4.0. I'll try again when I have the chance. Thanks, guys.

Why is it the computer industry can't leave well enough alone...now it's version 5.0 and on, and on, and on...gah...

But you want to hear the wierd thing, I running on v4.05 and everything looks fine. I haven't gone through the entire book yet but the first 10 pages are showing no problems. Go figure...

Ver 4.05 will look at the book just fine, but don't even remotely try to print it with that version.

It'll hang up your computer pretty fast.

Ver 4.0 won't even look at it, though.

(4.0 on my computer, 4.05 here at work, 5.0 on my wife's computer--good thing I burned a CD.)

Yea, I'm NOT kidding when I say 5.0+ is required. All the books use PDF version 1.4 which is only supported in Acrobat 5.0+.

Really? I haven't had a problem with v4.05 before -- even with printing. (I haven't tried printing the Klingon SRM yet, but it displays just fine.)

    Am I just lucky?

Reader 4.0: Displays just fine and no problems with printing a test page.

Guess I am lucky too, but luck shouldn't have much to do with program versions and which displays what, now should it ?

Or maybe it's just one of those big mysteries of the universe that would drive us completely insane if we ever tried to understand them.
