    The CODA system

    Hello!

I have posted one or two messages here but have been relatively quiet.

I have been very excited about the setting. I did not play any of the LUG stuff, only the old FASA.

The new CODA system has been described as having a very cinematic feel to it, from personel interactions to starship combat.

One reason this interests me is because I am not just looking to play Star Trek, but other settings (like Babylon 5, Dune, etc so forth).

I was wondering how the designers felt when it would come to converting to other science fiction settings? Is the system designed to fit just Star Trek, or with a little tweaking could you use it to game in other universes as well (or combinations thereeof)?

The reason I ask is that from the descriptions, and the wide variety of character types playable, the more cinematic style ship combat, and the general cinematic feel of the game, it seems as though you could adapt it to a number of Space opera cinematic species?

What do you all think of this?

I want Star Trek, but is would be great if you could play other universes with the system too?

Thanks in advance for any response!

Can't wait, I've already preordered both!

Well, with a few tweaks the CODA system is also being used for the Lord of the Rings RPG, so I imagine you can alter it to fit any universe/genre you want.

    Where did you preorder it?

With my game shop. He has the orders in with his distributor, he says.

He has never lied to me, so I am guessing that he does.

It must already be in their catalogs....

    I can't confirm this though.

Well, Raz, to answer your question as succinctly as possible, consider the fact that the Star Trek RPG and the LOTR RPG will both be using CODA...

    Thumbs up

I don’t see why not, while it would require you to create your own balanced species templates and a distribution method for the development packages. Or you could even create a new methodology of picking up skill ranks and traits. (I’m not sure what’s been done in the LotR RPG as I haven’t seen any of it.)

The starship combat would port over easily, provided you made some less Trek-specific maneuvers and starships.

I think Coda would kick butt with Star Wars, but that’s just me.

    Thanks fellas for the response.

    I appreciate it.

I can't wait to pick up all of the cool Tre supplements you have planned.

I REALLY can't wit for the two core book either.

    Game on!

Heh. I had been planning on it actually. D20 has become a chore for me to use as a GM, mainly because I think monsters and mindless enemies whose stats I can get out of a book aren't suitable for the main villains in my games. Coupled with the fact that it's unlikely WotC is going to release the rules changes between the original and their soon to be released revised core outside of that book, I might as well get double duty out of a RPG I already planned to buy this spring rather than "upgrade"
